      Agreed.

Not to mention, the divers seem to be fairly skilled and my kids have enjoyed watching them in the past. Past being the key word - I hope.

What are you talking about? Haven't you ever been to the tabernacle? Our ancestors were so cultured and accustomed to nice things, they painted the pillars to look like marble and the benches to look like oak. We are a highly refined society.

I've never had to experience the Mayan. Twice, IIRC, we were slated to go there with friends or some other ridiculous reason. Both times, the plans were eventually changed under persuasion of several people in the party.

            I am thankful.

I had always wondered just how bad it was. I had envisioned it like Cafe Rio food and all the "haters" were like FM.

Apparently not. I realize Cafe Rio isn't Mexican. It's not authentic. Bla, bla, blaa....but you can eat a meal that is easy on the taste buds there. It's Umex. If Texas can have it's own version of mex, TexMex, than Cafe Rio is the Utah analog. It's UMex

But, this Mayan sounds much worse. Like bad Taco Time.

On a similarly disappointing Mexican note, we were in Arizona last week. We have some friends that live down there and we were going to meet them the first night we got there. They asked us where we would like to eat. We had no idea since we aren't all that familiar with Phoenix and surrounds. However, I figured if we were in Arizona, we may as well try some Mexican.

They decided to try a new place. Apparently, THEIR friends raved about it. Said it was the best Mexican they had tried anywhere in Phoenix/surrounds.

            It was called Matta's.

With an apostrophe. Right then, I should have known.

I had expected at LEAST Red Iguana quality and actually expected better.

            This. Place. Sucked.

Do not go there. There are MUCH better Mexican restaurants in Utah and Idaho and as an extention, I KNOW there are better places in Arizona.

The service was good, but the beans were what were described in this thread. Rice as dry and clumpy as could be imagined. Everything topped with CHEDDAR CHEESE.

I was so mad that I wanted to punch a wall. I had skipped eating much all day because I wanted to indulge. I had worked, run to the airport, travelled and had worked up a very big appetite and some great excitement to eat some good Mex.

            Ugh.

I hate that. There are few things in daily life more disappointing than really being excited about a meal and then be served crap on a stick.

In short,I will join the boycott.

Taco Time is a five star restaurant in comparison.

Agreed. I'd even prefer Taco Bell to the Mayan. That's how bad it is.

I've been to Matta's (in Mesa), also on the advice of friends. I can confirm that it was bad.

Other horrid Mexican restaurants I have eaten at include Los Hermanos, Guadalahonky's, Chi Chi's, The Tampico and South of the Border. Glad to live in a place where there is really, really good Mexican food.
You should also be glad to live in a place where you can easily get Hatch NM green chiles.

I read this thread to my wife and she had a really good laugh. About four years ago we were in the 'tah for a family reunion and enjoyed a terrific night of gaiety and fine Mayan cuisine. It's been the source of much loud laughter since that day.

No, I'd love to kick you in the nuts. I'm sure you could ask your wife to demonstrate the difference.
