    Ramen

Today's lunch. A good post workout meal. Ramen packet with four egg whites and one whole egg. Glass of milk. Extra MSG and Korean red pepper powder for flavor.

I enjoy the fresh ramen in the stores as opposed to the dried stuff for a dime.

You know who was a resident ramen enthusiast? mikewaters

Over on cougarguard there is a thread he started dedicated to the proposition that not all ramen is created equal.

Good heavens, you have it all wrong. MW used to promote some sort of campbell's soup, dried ramen concoction that he learned on his mission. It sounded nasty as hell. I was the one pimping the virtues of fresh ramen.

So for the Ramen Snobs, who is the preferred supplier of Ramen goodness and what is the preferred method of cooking it?

If you can find the Saimin like Grace linked to, that is the best.

Sadly I am usually left to churching up some Marchuan Top Ramen with eggs, fishcake, and charsiu when I have it.

I much prefer fresh ramen to the kind you get in the local mega mart. There used to be a little shop next the JNR train station in Hyogo-Ku (maybe I am misremembering) in Kobe that had the best ramen. That was also the place I had my first taste of gyoza.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

Did you miss post 2 in this thread?

S&S is really good, at least I think it is. Of course it's not as good as going to a ramen shop (locally I like Samurai Noodle in the International District, and Aloha Ramen in Greenwood), but for the options you can store at home, this is way better than the dried stuff.

But I'm sure the true ramen snob will sound off in a minute. Paging Nikuman!

Ramen noodles saved my Droid Incredible from being destroyed the other day. The story:

I was fixing ramen for my kids and was talking on my cell phone at the same time. I had just put a brick of noodles in a pot of boiling water on the stove when I fumbled the phone and it went right into the pot of boiling water.

Fortunately, the ramen brick was still floating on the top and it prevented my phone from being completely submerged. Only the top, back part where the camera lens is was submerged and I could see that there was moisture in the camera housing.

I fished the phone out, pulled the battery, and stuck it in a tub of uncooked rice. About 8 hours later I checked the phone and couldn't see any moisture droplets in the camera housing so I put the battery back in and viola!

Phone has worked fine since then. Thank goodness the ramen noodles brick prevented my phone from becoming a brick. Ramen - is there anything it can't do?

It's kamaboko! As soon as I turn my back you'll be saying soy sauce, too!

I gotta pile on here with MG. Kamaboko is not just a rubber slipper.

I went back to check and while you are correct, I was also correct.

mikewaters started the thread and he definitely was a ramen enthusiast.

On second glance, it does seem that his recipe is grody.

I enjoyed a laugh while re-reading that thread in light of your comment here....even until the bitter end of the thread you are trying to convert mikewaters to your methods.

PS why am I not surprised that UteStar has one of the zaniest posts in the thread?

We do things a little differently now. We buy our raw ramen in bulk from Chao's in downtown Provo. It is dirt cheap. Then we buy miso paste and ajinomoto dashinomoto and use a miso base for our fresh ramen (with chopped green onions). Delish.
