So my ten yr old detests anything spicy. Wife makes a beef roast that is scored on top and has fairly large slices of ginger stuck in for the flavor, a little jus on top from the leftover bits and beef broth and yum. Anyway, not the point.
so, said 10 yr old loves meat, gets anxious to eat and goes hand to mouth with a big chunk in all his youthful exuberance...obviously not noticing the slice of ginger that is just about the size of your average stick of big red gum.
between the delayed reaction and the shock and antics that ensued, i'm not sure what part was funniest. granted fresh ginger ain't the spiciest thing out there, but it packs a more-than-meager kick in that quantity and for someone whose palate is as untainted by strong flavors as my son's.
i highly recommend trying this on your kids. next time i'm going for wasabi.
