  • Dining spots in Austin

Didn't see a thread for Austin, but I think everyone has been here but me. We'll be working downtown and out in the Lost Creek area during the next few weeks, any suggestions?

I'm sure Babs could be talked into having you over for dinner. She has bragged in the past about making a great SPAM casserole.

Yeah, we have a thread on this somewhere. You definitely need to try the County Line and the Salt Lick (go to the original out in Hays county - well worth the drive). I am not a big Chuy's fan, but it is an Austin original and you should give it a shot. You should also definitely try Threadgill's, hopefully on a night they are doing the "Live from Threadgill's" show. Order the chicken-fried steak (voted best in the US by a national magazine).

Other than that, be sure to check out the music scene on Sixth Street.

Had dinner tonight at the Salt Lick. Damn. Best brisket on the planet.

I would trust the Dude more than me, but there is also a BBQ place downtown called Stubb's which is where the sauces and marinades you may have seen in stores originated. Very good.

I would probably steer clear of Chuy's. Its fairly cheap, but overall, very low quality (at least, those in Houston are).

I am debating whether or not my stomach and arteries can withstand another meat gorging like last night. My buddy wants to do another tonight, but I am hesitant.

                The County Line
                Rudy's
                Stubbs

                so many options...

But none will have a brisket superior to the Salt Lick.

My wife and I did both Stubbs and Rudys when we were there. We both preferred Stubbs. FWIW.

Umphrey's McGee tonight at Stubbs. That just might seal the deal.

I've never been to Stubbs (but I'm a great fan of their original sauce). If Rudy's sides weren't so plain, they'd be hard to beat.

I think you're selling yourself way short. Just not my cup of tea.

Bbq was ok. But wow, the music was incredible.
