I wish you'd told me we were a cult before I joined. I have a firm one cult rule, now I have to decide this or Mormonism.
You are an egghead now. That is THREE cults, amigo.

The main reason I don't do triathlons is because nik said it was like his new cult, well that and the running, biking and swimming….and Ironmen tend to be kind of blowhardy

OK folks, things just got serious with regards to new smokers. After much love working with the traeger and many successful cooks, the time has come to upgrade to something with more cooking capacity and greater smoking ability. I did a lot of homework and decided that a cabinet was the way to go for me. Gravity feeds are used far and wide, in restaurants as well as heavily on the comp circuit. After weighing the pros and cons, I felt like I couldn't go wrong jumping into one. They are an investment, but as the active participants in this thread can attest (and Jeff Spicoli can verify), smoking isn't a sport it's a way of life. It's no hobby. Stump, Myron mixon, Moe Cason, Johnny Trigg, and Harry Soo all agree with me.
I am proud to announce that I am expecting a beautiful new Stump's Classic: 575 pounds of pure smoky goodness. It will go into fab in the next few weeks and delivery should be right after kids go back to school. This is one sweet machine and I look forward to learning new techniques and improving on what little I already have.
As with most journeys, the fun is increased when shared with others. I have a feeling there will be more news to follow.....

So happy for you that you're expecting. That's quite a big baby. Congrats.

In other words, we both ordered one and got a discount with the double order.
You have to show this photo. This is the smoker we ordered and that is Stump on the right.

I love that that guy's name is Stump. Also, keep in mind there are other ways to share the joy of this awesome machine than co-purchasing.
I fear this takes the smoker arms race to a frightening (or at least even more delicious) level.
I was just thinking today and trying to figure out how long I have been doing this. I first bought a small Brinkman electric smoker and used it for four years or so. Cheap and simple, but it worked really well for some things. Then I bought a vertical propane smoker and used it for about three years (hated it). Then I got my Traeger about five years ago (loved it). So 12 years? That sounds about right.
I am hoping this one is the last smoker I ever buy. This is what many of the bbq champions use. Here is the capacity:
25 slabs of Baby Back ribs
20 slabs of St. Louis style ribs
10 large Briskets
15 to 20 Boston butts
30 to 40 Chicken halves
20 lb charcoal hopper so it will burn for 24 hours. We will use BBQ Guru controllers to maintain constant temp.
I am going to keep my Traeger around and use both. I think DDD is planning to do the same.
