When I was getting my lunch from the fridge, one of the paralegals came up to warm her lunch up in the microwave. She started bragging about how she was eating "fancy" today. She said they grilled filet mignon and that it was delicious. She told me this as she was smothering it in barbeque sauce. It was sad to see that fantastic cut of meat go out like that.

I like my steak with a basil/bleucheese compound butter. I am not sure I would do that to a filet. I dont even care for bacon wrapped filets. Just salt and cracked black peppercorns seared over high heat to med-rare!Originally posted by Mrs. Funk View PostSalt. Pepper. Butter. Bacon (maybe).

My sister cooked filet's on her George Foreman grill. I wanted to slap her. I grill mine over very high heat or sear in a very hot (smoking) skillet with butter/olive oil mix for 1-2 minutes on the first side, flip then put in a 375° oven and finish in the oven until med-rare. Remove the meat from the pan. Put the pan back on the heat and add a little garlic or shallot to the pan and cook for 30 secs to a minute. Deglaze the pan with a little red wine and reduce down. Throw in a few pats of butter and maybe a little dijon mustard/balsamic vinegar and stir. Makes a nice pan sauce."I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's a$$, but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it". - Tommy Callahan III

The most egregious error here has nothing to do with barbecue sauce or bacon.
I would rather eat a steak cold than reheated in a microwave. At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Egads, that is terrible. Tell her to just buy an 80/20 packet of hamburger meat, save her some money and drench in BBQ sauce.
I could live on RibEyes for the rest of my life. Grill it, add a little garlic salt, some pepper, cook to medium rare and you have a feast. I made add some grilled tomatoes and onions on the side...otherwise, I am good to go. Forever.

skip the tomato and onions and I agree with youOriginally posted by UteStar View PostEgads, that is terrible. Tell her to just buy an 80/20 packet of hamburger meat, save her some money and drench in BBQ sauce.

IMHO ribeyes are so much more flavorful than tenderloin.
I may be small, but I'm slow.

I used to date a woman that barbequed fillet mignon a couple of times a week. She would attack it with this spike thing that would punch a bunch of holes in it and then marinade for a couple of hours. One day I suggested that a good cut of meat doesn't really need a marinade, and that by poking holes in it you're going to lose all the juices as it cooks. She got annoyed and told me I didn't know a thing about cooking.
Edit: This is the same woman that told me, while shopping at Raley's, that she was going to make eggs benedict in the morning and wanted to know where the holiday sauce was.Last edited by Non Sequitur; 10-13-2010, 07:06 PM."The mind is not a boomerang.
