  • What time do you prefer to eat dinner?

I'm a late night dinner guy. If I'm going to bed at midnight, I like to eat dinner around 9 or 10. There's nothing worse than starting to feel hungry again as I'm trying to drift off to sleep, so eating a couple of hours before bedtime suits me well. It also prevents me from craving an ungodly amount of ice cream or cake before bedtime.

My ideal eating schedule, which of course never happens during a workday, is a big breakfast 2-3 hours after waking up (it takes me a couple of hours to get hungry after waking up, so I hate it when I have to force food down right after I get up), a late lunch (say, around 2 or 3 pm) and a late dinner.

If I get hungry in the midday or in the evening I just grab a snack. Almonds are great for that.

I love eating dinner at 6.

Please note that dinner is not my final intake, but dinner at 6 is fine with me.

Do you have young kids? Or do you have to get to bed early in order to wake up early for work?

I grew up eating dinner at 4:45. We ate that early because my dad had to be to work at 6:00pm (his job is a story for another thread). By the time I was in high school, I rarely ate dinner with the family, as I usually didn't get home from school until 5:30 or 6.

Now we usually eat around 6:00, as that generally preempts the "I'm starving, I think I'm going to die if I don't get a snack" temper tantrum which my 3 y.o. daughter will throw if we wait too long.

My family growing up were late night eaters, we never had a set time for dinner but it was never before 7:30 or 8, sometimes as late as 9 or 10. My wifes parents are older (mid 70s) so she grew up eating dinner around 4:30 or 5. We now eat dinner at 5:30. My wife very rarely eats after that, I on the other hand usually have a full meal around (9:30 or 10).

Anytime I eat is good time for me,
                      Eating and drinking so merrily,
Four, five, six, seven or eight,
I don't care what suppertime it is,
                      Just don't call me late.

When I am away from home I always eat between 7-8. At home my wife insists our kids go to bed by 7, so we eat at about 5.

We eat dinner at 6-ish. It would probably be a little earlier but Surfah doesn't get home until after 6 every evening.

I was surprised the first time I went to France. We got to the restaurant at 7:30 and we were the only ones there. By the time we left at 9:00, the place was packed. After that we always went to out to eat between 9:00 and 10:00. Since then I've always preferred dining late.

I like that about Europe. It's one of the reasons I'd like to live there someday.
