  • Homemade apple sauce

That sounds like something fun to make and good (and nutritious) to eat. I love the stuff but have never made it.

    A recipe here.

My children adore eating Kurt Tonnemaker's organic apples fresh, but they also love the apples when I core and quarter them and cook them quickly in one of my Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers. I simply add a little water and a dash of sugar to the apples and then cook the apples for about ten minutes over high pressure. Sometimes I add cinnamon. Sometimes I don't. Once the apples are thoroughly cooked, I mash them with a potato masher or, if I want a really silky texture, I whizz them in my wonderful Vitamix. Sometimes I make my applesauce with only one variety. On other occasions, I spontaneously use a medley grabbed from my mix and match selection.

My dad makes it every year, he has 2 apple trees in his yard - probably in area of 80 pnts or so along with apple juice. Everybody in family has as much apple juice and sauce as they want.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

Applesauce is easy. I used to make it quite a bit on Saturday mornings with homemade cake donuts. Dip the donuts in the hot applesauce = delicious!

Well, at least I thought they were delicious. I don't make it much anymore, because my wife doesn't like cake donuts, and doesn't like to dunk any kind of donuts. One of my kids doesn't like hot applesauce. Another one doesn't like the texture (I don't have a food mill, so I use a stick blender, and it turns out smoother than applesauce from the store). So I used to end up eating about a dozen donuts smothered in applesauce. I think I'll make them again next weekend.

Of all the things you can make with apples, applesauce is really low on my list. I prefer to eat an apple raw. But apple crisp ala mode is one of my favorite desserts.
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

I'm with your sup. I'll avoid apple sauce until I lose my teeth. I also don't like apple pie where the filling is virtually apple sauce. The big appeal of apples to me are the crispness.

I had some of my mom's homemade apple sauce last night. It was absolutely delicious. I could get the recipe for anyone interested.
