When I saw this thread title, at first I was afraid, I was petrified, I kept thinking that I shouldn't click the link and go inside. But, I get your wife's religion. I do!

Wednesday, June 24, 2009. Darker days.

How do you know that the drugs are messing with you? When you try to go to sleep at 1AM, but as soon as you lie down, you become obsessed with the idea of baking a cake. So you think to yourself, "Self, you're going the distance, you're going for sleep, but you're all alone, all alone, all alone in a time of need." So you plot your course to sleep, but you can't find it. You daydream of driving, in the car, but that makes your baby seem so far; you try and count sheep but they just go to hell...all the while there's this Frank Sinatra song playing on the radio in your head. And Sleep, that old friend, you're never there...in fact, friend, that's a four-letter word. And, the longer you lie there, the more the cake seems to be calling you. You're not even really a cake fan, nor have you ever baked one without a female overseer, but at 2:00AM you realize that the cake is calling and it's not going to go away until you yield to it, but that you really also love it madly.........so, I just made a cake, and I'm wide awake in America at 2:46AM EDT; I will survive, yeah, yeah.

I took those same classes a few years ago. I really enjoyed them...but having a 6 week old infant I was wanting to lose weight and making an 8-inch round 4-inch high cake every week for a month made it hard to stay motivated. FN says I need to post a pic. This one I did a couple months ago for our YW who were having a treasure hunt theme for YW in Excellence night.

Everything was edible, well, except the foil lined cardboard.

I was honored to make my siblings wedding cakes...except one sibling who shall remain nameless. Here are their cakes...

(forgive the look, I was 7 1/2 months preggo suffering from dislocated pubic bone...and it was late)

And fondant does suck. However, I think that homemade MM fondant tastes way better than the store bought stuff. It's a pita to make esp when people just rip it off. Kids always love it though...

        you actually watch that?

Those are awesome! I love the treasure box. I did a pirate party for my oldest several years ago and made a pirate ship. You treasure chest is waaaaaaaaay better.

Wow. The cake decorators in this thread are incredible. I could practice for years and not come close to anything GL's wife or Chachi can do.

These look great! My wife has the same story as yours (Took cake decorating classes, then became instructor, though it was at Roberts in Taylorsville). This thread might finally pull her into signing up on CUF.

BTW, my wife has a fondant recipe that is much better than the store bought Wilton crap.

Great pics! And I should mention that my wife has a policy never to keep anything she bakes in the house longer than a day. As a result I am extremely popular at work every time she has leftover cake.

Yeah, my wife much prefers her homemade stuff to the store bought too.
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

I never have a reason to enter a craft store. I didn't realized they had cake decorating classes. How fun. I will have to check it out.

My MIL is diabetic...I have an AWESOME strawberry angel food cake recipe...churches up the usual recipe but it's sugar free...almost.

I made it this spring while visiting my parents and Surfah and my dad devoured so fast that I had to make it once more so the rest of the family could try it.

Would you mind sharing? My Dad is diabetic as well and it would be awesome for my wife to have a cake she can make him.
