Discussing the Slab Pizzeria yesterday, I got hungry for more pizza and Vinto Wood-Fired Pizzeria in Salt Lake had been recommended to me by my sister. I was pleased to learn that it was created by David Harries who also created Fresco and Trio, both of which I've enjoyed in the past so we hit it up this evening.

I had a pizza with roasted chicken, wild mushrooms and whole roasted garlic. The mushrooms were excellent and I liked the pizza overall but man, that was a lot of garlic. My wife took the waiter's recommendation and had one with caremelized onions, pancetta, cherry tomatoes and goat cheese. Quite tasty.

I liked the restaurant itself as well. It's looking a lot nicer than when it was Wings 'n' Things back in the day. Anyone else been there? Pellegrino? Mrs. Funk?
Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.

We drove past it last night after eating at Mo' Bettah Steaks (just eat there, you'll thank me). I'm glad to hear we have yet another solid pizza option! Sounds tasty.

We tend to get the Ekolu special, which for $11.99 offers more food than the two of us can comfortably share. It give a nice portion of their kalua pork, steak, and Hawaiian-style teriyaki chicken. You also get three big scoops of rice and two big scoops of their fabulous macaroni salad (don't think about the mayonnaise . . . I don't like mayonnaise and this mac salad is still one of my favorite things on the menu). If you like shaved ice, theirs is very good.

Mo' Bettah seems to use a fairly chewy cut of steak, so they cook it medium rare to medium. If you don't like any pink in your beef, I'd steer clear of that. Really, it's just good, simple eats that comes in a Styrofoam box. They have a few different sauces you an use, but I like to stick with Sriracha and maybe a little bit of their teriyaki sauce. (Don't flog me, KL, if this isn't actually teriyaki sauce. That's what they call it.)

Okay, that's going on the list.

Sorry to threadjack, by the way. Not intentional. But Mo' Bettah is definitely worthy of "the list."

I know many people on here rave about L&L. We had what sounds like an extremely isolated, extremely unpleasant experience at L&L. We ordered something with chicken, and received a gigantic glob of fat on a chicken bone. Honestly, there wasn't a piece of chicken to be found, on a so-called "chicken breast." The rice was totally dried out (like it had been scraped out of the very bottom of a dry pan). It was so unpalatable that we ended up chucking it because the line was inexplicably too long to go ask them to fix it.

So yes, I would say much better than L&L, but my perception might be skewed.

I like L&L but prefer Mo Bettah Steaks. With that said I think one popping up close to Tim is pretty cool.

I want to say Mo Bettah Steaks opened after we moved or just before so I never got to try it. But I have poly friends and others who highly recommend it.

Back to the original topic of this thread, we heathen Funks tried out Vinto tonight and were not disappointed. We shared the crostini with tapenade and meatball appetizers and the canapania (sp.) pizza GL's wife ordered. The crostini were awesome and dotted with a soft dab of goat cheese and drizzled with Viola olive oil (google it and buy some. You will put it on everything. Available at Caputo's.). I liked the meatballs but thought they were a little dry and probably wouldn't order again. The pizza is awesome--despite being wood-fired, totally different than Settebello. We also ordered the gelato sampler which for $6 seemed like a bargain. Good, nice, non-pushy service and vibe.

Thanks for the recommendation, GL. We will definitely be back soon.
