  • Tempura Bacon

Yup, ate it tonight. My dad loves to experiment in the kitchen. It is hit and miss. Usually more miss than hit. Tonight he made a salad though that I loved. A bed of romaine, topped with green beans that were blanched then sauteed in bacon grease with onions. Then he made a reduction of that with soy sauce, ginger, and sugar for a dressing. Not satisfied he wanted bacon and a crouton like crunch. So he mixed tempura batter, dipped full slices of bacon and then deep fried it. Then he sliced them up and topped the salads. Sounds disgusting, but it worked. And it tasted great.

The salad accompanied some thick fresh salmon fillets. These were coated with a mayonnaise, dill, lemongrass, lemon juice, chive mixture. Then panko bread crumbs were pressed into the mayo concoction and baked. Awesome.

I am under the impression that anything involving bacon is pretty darn good.

    That sounds pretty good Surfah.

Tempura bacon in a yummy salad sounds absolutely delish! Such a concoction might possibly tempt me away from vegetarianism. I wonder if I could try making "fake" bacon tempura.

I dont know how you can fake a pork flavor, but those Betty Crocker bacon bits have no meat in them, I think.

The thought of deep-fried bacon makes me think of these for some reason.
