  • Art and Soup 2010

There is a charity event held in SLC each year called Art and Soup. Local artists display and sell their paintings and local restaurants sample soup and bread for those in attendance. This year my three favorite soups were:

    1) The Tin Angel Cafe: wild mushroom gorgonzola with pear, topped with grilled leeks and a balsamic vinegar reduction

    2) Grand America: Tuscan white bean with pesto

    3) Utah Food Services Catering (surprise): creamy chicken with loganberry and chives

I generally skipped the butternut squash soups of which there were still several, having got my fill of them last year at this same event when probably a third of the sponsors were offering some variation.

I believe the event runs tonight and again tomorrow mid-day and evening if you're interested in checking it out. Downtown Sheraton.

When my parents first divorced my mom went to work for Utah Food Services, at the time they were in the Salt Palace and did all the Jazz VIP and 100 Club. Sadly it never allowed for me to sneak into games. The guy who now owns it was the head chef when my mom was there and always made good stuff, which she was able at times to bring home leftovers.

I'm glad to know he is still around.

Hey Vandelay, did you too think this thread was going to be rumors about the two of us?
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

These all sound fabulous. Especially No. 1. Also, what is a loganberry?

Hybrid of a blackberry and a raspberry.

Oops. That hadn't occurred to me.

I remember the cows from last year. One in particular with a whole group of cows in a bright green field was very good. I don't remember any in his landscapes this year.
