  • Here you go. It is a slight variation of the choc. chip urban legend recipe:

    http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/foo...kie_recipe.htm

so there is zero chance that it is a legit Mrs. Fields recipe. Still pretty good though. You should cut it in half at least. Otherwise you will be overwhelmed with cookies.

    1 lb. Butter
    2 C sugar
    2 C brown sugar
    4 Eggs

    2 tsp baking powder
    2 tsp baking soda
    4 1/2 C Flour
    5 C Oats
    1 lb raisins

These are good cookies. I pulverize the oats in a food processor so it's more like an oat flour.

You mean your mom does. Which does not result in a proper oatmeal cookie, but a kick-ass chocolate chip it does make.

12 tbs unsalted butter (1½ sticks), softened
              2 cups brown sugar
1 egg (+1 egg yolk if using medium-sized eggs)
              1 tsp vanilla
              1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt (omit if using salted butter)
              2 cups flour
              1¼ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Place oven's rack in the center position and place a large rectangular baking stone on rack. Preheat oven to 350° at least 30 minutes before baking.

Beat butter and sugar together at medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Let stand for another 10 minutes to allow the sugar to thoroughly dissolve into the butter (don't skip this step!). While waiting, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Using a medium-low speed, beat the egg and vanilla into the butter mixture. Add sifted flour and mix until the dough just sticks together. Stir in chocolate chips by hand. Gently form tablespoon-sized balls of dough and drop onto a hollow-center heavy-gauge dull aluminum baking sheet that is lined with parchment paper. The baking sheet should be at room temperature. (I use two baking sheets, alternating between the two for each batch.) Bake for 6 minutes using non-convection heat. Open the oven and rotate the cookie sheet 180° and then continue to bake for another 6 minutes with convection heat to produce a crispy cookie exterior. Remove from oven and lightly tap cookie sheet on counter to collapse the cookie structure a bit. Allow the cookies to cool on sheet for one minute, then transfer to a wire rack.

Variations. Instead of 1¼ cups chocolate chips, try any of the following:
              • ½ cup milk chocolate chips, ½ cup roasted macadamia nut pieces, ½ cup toasted coconut
              • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips; ½ cup roasted pecans (Note: To roast pecans, spread nuts out on an aluminum foil lined cookie sheet, then roast for 5 minutes in a 350° oven.)

              Pictures are attached.

From left to right: 1) plain chocolate chip cookies, 2) chocolate chip cookies with roasted pecans, 3) cross section of a chocolate chip cookie illustrating the 1-mm thick exterior of crispiness that surrounds a 3- to 4-mm thick portion of gooey goodness.

              Enjoy!
Holy crap that recipe has a lot of directions! Whatever happened to mixing it all up and chucking it in the oven? I particularly like the "hollow-center heavy-gauge dull aluminum baking sheet that is lined with parchment paper" instruction.

As a side note, I'll probably try to make these. But I think I'll cook them a little longer - I don't like cookies that are gooey to the point of appearing uncooked.

See if I ever make them again for you! And they're chocolate chip cookies! Not oatmeal cookies! If I wanted to make a proper oatmeal cookie it'd have whole oats and raisins! Sheesh.

                  • Alton Brown did an episode of Good Eats on chocolate chip cookies that was outstanding. I suggest trying to find that. It's the amount of brown sugar in the recipe that affects the chewiness of a cookie. So he modifies a recipe to give you crispier cookies and chewy cookies.

SG's recipe has nothing but brown sugar (unless I misread). That surprised me. Have you made Alton Brown's cookies from that episode?

I have not. I have wanted to. I've only made chocolate chip cookies from the recipe that Gidget says I have never made.

                          4 eggs
                          2/3 cup vegetable oil

Stir all ingredients until well blended. Roll dough into 1 inch balls, and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Slightly flatten the balls with the back of a spoon.

Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in a preheated oven at 325 degrees, until firm. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.

                          Filling:
8 oz package cream cheese, softened
                          3 cups confectioners' powdered sugar
                          1 tbsp vanilla extract

Beat together until smooth. Spread between two cooled cookies.
These were a smash hit with both my kids, and the YM in our ward today. Once again Captain served as my helper in making another CUF tasty treat.

Tonight we had my FIL, MIL and SIL over for dinner. After when we were eating these cookies my MIL was commenting on how good they were and asked where I got the recipe. When I told her that I got it from a message board I frequent my FIL looked distraught and said "That is what you do on that message board? Exchange baking tips?" It made me smile.

Kids in general these days seem more socially retarded...

None of them date. They hang out. They text. They sit in the same car or room and don't say a word...they text. Then, they go home and whack off to internet porn.

I think that's the sad truth about why these kids are retards.
