I just got back from dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant in town, Mimmo's. My favorite dish there is cozze (mussels) in a white wine, butter, garlic, lemon sauce. The sauce is to die for. I also love a fresh Caprese salad with mozarella di buffala. For pasta al forno I nearly always go with manicotti. And any pasta dish is complemented by a good Italian sausage.

I always laugh when Italian restaurants have "cozze" on their menu. I wonder how many of them know that it's slang for "ugly girls"Originally posted by John McClain View PostI just got back from dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant in town, Mimmo's. Agreed. I've even asked the server if he or she knows about the slang usage. It's great fun to tell them. I never get tired of it.Originally posted by pellegrino View PostI always laugh when Italian restaurants have "cozze" on their menu. I'll answer the question now.
I have many favorites. I love a good tortellini marinara, linguini w/clam sauce, fettucini alfredo (sorry pelligrino), gnocchi, etc. Al forno, I prefer to go with rigatoni, but manicotti is a good choice too.
It would be easier for me to just say my favorite dish is Italian, though I'll pass on the pasta nera. I gave it a try in Palermo and decided that squid ink is not for me."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Isn't putanesca also a fairly colorful name for a plate of food, too?Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostI'll answer the question now.

Also, with the Spanish background, I always have a difficult time ordering the "penne" pasta. "Yes, I'd quite like the penne, please." Not that there's anything wrong with that. Well for you. For me, it's wrong.

Yep, but there are two "t"s in it. As for penne, when there are two "n"s, it's not a bad thing. If there is only one "n", feel free to skip that for the reason you've stated.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostIsn't putanesca also a fairly colorful name for a plate of food, too?

risotto nero. it's good stuff. I've never made it because squid ink has always been hard to come by. There's a decent fish market here though, I'll have to try it out.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostAny dish with squid ink is high on list of dishes I would like to try. Never tried it, but really curious.
Il pad, I'm not THAT big of a food snob, if you like something eat it and enjoy it, who cares if it's authentic? Just don't expect me to eat it

I appreciate that. I'll take the alfredo sauce and you can have all the squid ink.Originally posted by pellegrino View Postrisotto nero. it's good stuff. I've never made it because squid ink has always been hard to come by. There's a decent fish market here though, I'll have to try it out.
