Yup, that's about it. My son asked for vegetable curry for his 21st birthday last year. After dicing and browning yellow onions and green pepper, I added the curry blocks (cut into very thin slices) and threw in potatoes, french-cut carrots, cauliflower, bamboo shoots, and tofu blocks. Also had browned chicken pieces on the side for those that wanted to add a little meat to it. Served it over rice, and had naan bread on the side. Everybody raved about it for weeks. I'm making it again tomorrow.

More and more normal grocery stores are carrying House Curry too. I have a specialty Japanese market in Houston I frequent now and again, but it's getting easier and easier to find. And just about any Asian food market should have it - those are much easier to find than the Japanese ones, which only exist in the largest of cities in the US.

Gidget, I like to use beef short ribs for the meat. Just cut into chunks. It is nice and tender without having to cook for too long.

Be careful with the veggie quantities shown on the House box. I think they use too much, especially the potatoes. You have enough starch with the rice, I don't like it loaded with potatoes. I would do maybe a couple of small potatoes, one large onion, 2-3 carrots, and 1-1.5 lbs of meat.

Also, the spice levels on the House curry are mild. Following MBN's suggestion, we like to mix 1/2 hot and 1/2 mild. But it is still very mild. Just a slight kick.

Oh no. Not with Japanese curry. Whoa, that would be gross.

Coconut milk with Thai or Indian curry only.

Agree on the potatoes. I make it very simple. Sliced up chicken breast, carrots, and onions. I use this curry.

ok, good to know. I need to brush up on my curries.

Out of curiosity, what is the difference that would make one gross and one good?

Spice mixture, serving style, and traditional ingredients. Coconut milk with Japanese curry is not good eats.

I saw that and winced, then looked away. I wanted 3D to save face.
