    Worst Cooks in America

So, I end up watching this show on Food Network and quite enjoyed it. It was neat just to see some basic cooking techniques. However, I'm not surprised that the chose cooks are struggling - I'm a pretty good amateur cook who has familiarity with many techniques, ingredients, and tastes, and I would have had a hard time with a lot of what they showed last night.

The woman from SLC got eliminated last night. Funny part of the night in the nikuman household: when the SLC woman said that she had no idea what some salad or other was and both yelled at the TV that was because it didn't have jello in it.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

What about cutting up a piece of fruit? That is a salad, no?

Lol, I'm pretty sure SLC woman would have thought so.

Actually, I think I misremembered - she wasn't eliminated. It was the lawyer instead.

My problem with this show is that I think most of them are sandbagging. For that reason alone, it didn't hold my attention, and I deleted the timer from my DVR.

I did get a kick out of the fat guy with the woman's voice, though.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

You mean the gay guy who actually talks like a stereotypical gay guy? I have many friends who are gay, but none of them actually talk like that, which I find odd, since they are all apparently supposed to talk like that.

I don't think they are sandbagging. I really know people who are that bad. And like I said, I would have struggled with some of the stuff they had to do last night, and I'm a pretty decent cook.

I don't disagree that the recipes were a bit complex for beginner cooks. But I still think most of them are sandbagging. After all, the worse they cook, the more likely they are to make the show, right? Plus, it wouldn't surprise me at all if the producers encourage them to sandbag, as that will make the eventual winner seem like that much more of a success story.

I buy that in terms of getting on the show. But I don't buy it for the actual competition, since the worst cooks are supposed to be the ones eliminated (and I think that was in fact the case last night, although editing would of course want to show that). I think the recipes are enough to make an average cook look bad (especially when said recipes are judged by professionals).
