I really like Carraba's, and I have a great Carraba's story: I went there with a woman last year. We had a great dinner...yada, yada, yada, I'm pretty sure I can never go back there again.

I'm late jumping in to this thread but I've got a few comments. Sorry, I don't have time to quote......
1. My FIL is the last of the Dunfords to run Dunford Bakery. He retired in November. The chocolate chocolate donut is wonderful, but I do admit that in SLC you cannot beat a Banbury Cross cinnamon-crumb donut.
2. I realize it was a joke but the italian place on University in Provo/Orem with the trees on the roof is Carraba's, not Johnny Carinos. I ate at Johnny Carino's once - it was a bland Olive Garden, if such a thing is possible. I think Carraba's is pretty good for it's type of restaurant.
3. All BBQ tastes the same? Different meats, different cooking/prep styles, different sauces/rubs....I can't think of a food type with more variety.
4. I've never been a fan of beef ribs. And I was born in Texas.

It's not you typical greasy spoon burger, but it's damn good and pretty reasonably priced for what it is. Also, if you go at happy hour I think it's like $5 or $6.

So MarkGrace has inspired me to find a great gyro in Portland next time I am back. I will be trying this place, the next time I am in Portland.

Yes it was the Greek Souvlaki that fiyero recommended. The Mad Greek is also comparable.

Oh man, I remember eating at "The Souv" a few times a week when I worked downtown. Great gyros. Yanni's Greek Express is good too but Greek Souvlaki is tops.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostSeveral months ago, foyero recommended some greek dive for gyro and souvlaki. A lot of this may have been because you just couldn't get a good gyro or a burger in Portland. I would also add Settebello to the list if the day comes when I move from Utah.

Oh good call. They did this pumpkin shake during the holidays that was phenomenal. Compared favorably with the Pumpkin Concrete at Nielsens Frozen Custard.Originally posted by SuperGabers View PostB&D Burger off 13th East by the U... BEST shakes ever!

To those criticizing the Pie you need to order the cheese pull-a-parts. Most the time I do not even order pizza there anymore, but the pull-a-parts are amazing. Also, if you do order a pizza the key is to get it with smoked gouda on it.

Was it free jazz as in the jazz music you were listening to was free, or was it free jazz as in they were playing the style of music. If it was the latter, the place has become even better, but I fear that it is was simply a jazz band playing for free. Of course, jazz musicians who play free jazz often have no choice but to play for free.Originally posted by The_Tick View PostThe BBQ ribs are okay. I wasn't super impressed. The Brisket was so-so also.
Their sides and sauces were killer though.
The free jazz band the night we were there was awesome also.

Speaking of good Mexican eats in Utah...most have probably checked out Lonestar Taqueria in Ft. Union. The fish burritos are fantastic (except when it's cod, and that's still decent).
