  • Amano chocolate

Anyone here familiar with Amano chocolate? Maybe this has been discussed here already.... Anyway, posting about its inclusion in a Communal dessert I realized some may not know that in our own backyard of Orem, UT is housed an international award-winning chocolatier. Check out some of the awards Amano has won:

This is no slouch of a chocolate, and supposedly won an award recently that no American chocolate maker had achieved to that point. I'm no chocolate snob, but for those of you that might be you might check it out.

We had some type of chocolate cake desert at Log Haven Restaurant that they said was made with Amano chocolate. I'm not sure I would be much of a chocolate judge, but my wife would, and she said it was great.

We use guittard for home stuff. I like their chocolate. Their butterscotch chips are the best.
      Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

We met the owner and artisan chocolatier Art Pollard tonight. He was manning the front of the factory store. We were the only ones in the store most of the time and chatted with him for about twenty minutes. He's a totally kind, warm, intelligent, and humble guy. He even knew the owner of our favorite chocolate store (Cacao) in Portland by name. Art now makes drinking chocolate—it's $3 for a huge cup that Funk and I shared and had more than enough.

Not to mention he makes kick ass chocolate bars. Go buy some!

You guys seem to share a lot. I am not poking fun, just an observation. It seems that whenever you mention a dinner out, you guys share something. Gidget always wants to share and it drives me nuts. I don't care to share my food. I'll share a bite for her to taste no problem. But eating half and then swapping plates isn't cool to me.

But to your post, Amano chocolate is good. Damn good. I have only tried the Madagascar and it is hands down the best chocolate I have ever tasted. I still am not sure that I believe the citrus you taste comes straight from the beans they use and not some additive.

Well, downing a tankard of drinking chocolate each would have been a bit much. The stuff is super rich. We like to share food simply because 1) most restaurant entrees have easily two portions of food and 2) it's cost effective so we can both eat at more expensive places and eat out more often. But it doesn't bug either of us. Obviously we probably would share less is one of us was swatting the other with their fork saying, "Why don't you eat your own food?"

Art swears that the floral, citrus, fruity, and other flavor notes in the chocolate are purely the product of the beans themselves. Careful roasting and fermentation draws out the flavors, but I think that's it.
