    Pomegranates

They taste so good but they are so hard to eat.

Agreed. There is one in the bowl of fruit on the kitchen counter that keeps calling my name. It's getting tougher to resist each passing moment.

I'm tearing through one right now trying to keep the keyboard from becoming a sticky mess and my white shirt from looking like i got shot with a shot gun.

I decided to go with an apple instead. Much easier and more filling.

That image sounds kind of potatoey.

RC....i love poms, but I agree with you.....high effort for moderate payback. The ratio is skewed. Even when you do peel the little pellets away, you bite into them and they all have these ridiculous seeds, as well.

I stopped eating poms a few years and now just drink pom juice. You get all the tasty loveliness and don't have to deal with all the work and mess.

I doubt I will ever sit down and eat a pom again.

What else can you take an hour to eat and only consume a 100 calories? It's the perfect food to watch a game with. Cover your couch with some towels so the wife doesn't' freak from the red spots all over it and pick away.

Interesting that you shorten it to "pom." Me and most of my friends just call them "granates." We think it sounds just a lot cooler.

Pomegranates are not difficult to peel if you do it right. Get a large bowl of cold water. Cut your pomegranate in half and place each halve under water. Rub your fingers gently along the membrane, and the berries will release and sink. The pith floats to the top for easy skimming.

The water loosens the attachment to the pith, and lubricates the separation. You'll be surprised how easy it is.

I learned this from Good Eats (where else) a few years back, and have been using it ever since. Unfortunately, I can't find the Good Eats vid to post, but here is the idea demonstrated by someone else:

You don't just eat the seeds? That's what I do.

I guess it is cooler in Ohio. For now, I will just go with pom, because that seems to be what everyone else in the whole world calls them.
