  • U.S. Team Battles for Oatmeal Honors

This article will be interesting to all oatmeal lovers (like me - maybe it's a Scottish thing). There's a pretty fancy recipe for "Oregon Orchard Oat Brulee," and some other interesting info. Opening paragraph:
It takes a lot of haggis--I mean, hubris!--to challenge the Scots in the field of oatmeal. This year, though, a team from Oregon-based Bob's Red Mill, home of specialty grains and flours, is competing in the 16th Annual Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship in a small Scottish town.

Extra credit if you already know what a spurtle is.
“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”
    ― W.H. Auden

"God made the angels to show His splendour - as He made animals for innocence and plants for their simplicity. But men and women He made to serve Him wittily, in the tangle of their minds."
-- Robert Bolt, A Man for All Seasons
