We just joined a local food co-op and in our first delivery there are two large canteloupes (among other things). Neither my wife nor I can stand canteloupe, but since I haven't eaten it since I was a kid and I hate throwing away food, I'm willing to give it another try. So canteloupe lovers, how do you make it palatable?

I love cantaloupe. Nothing like some chilled cantaloupe cubes with a scoop of rich vanilla ice cream on top.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostThat's disgusting!
Gidget hates melons. I wish she enjoyed melons more. I've tried to get her to appreciate them like I do, even showing her how to pick good ones by touch. But melons just don't do much for her.

By throwing it away. I hate the smell, I hate the aftertaste. My grandma would eat with pepper. The only useful purpose I have seen for cantaloupe is feeding it to chickens so the bowels get moving. That was a fun trick in the mission -- stick it in some other missionaries' apartment and let the fun begin.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostWe just joined a local food co-op and in our first delivery there are two large canteloupes (among other things). At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

For me it was a really good year for watermellon. Did anyone else notice that? I bought a couple of watermelons every week during the season, and only had two mushy mealy ones in all of that time. The rest were pure, crisp, sweet, pink perfection.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostA ripe cantaloupe is one of my favorite things to eat. However there is a very thin line between amazing deliciousness and awful. This summer I had much more awful than amazing.
