Nice.. I get the Cable Car everytime I go there (not often, but sometimes...)Originally posted by Surfah View PostSorry I wasn't online. Gidget managed the Pier 49 in Provo through college. They used to develop pizzas here and there because the owners of that franchise were part of creating the menu for the franchise. I know she created The Cable Car and the Mexican pizza that only some franchises carry.

I'm going to pull a pizza snob and say that until the Settebello Pizzeria opened in SLC Utah did not know what pizza was.
All the pizzerias were corrupt, they drew near to Pizza with their lips, but their hearts are far from it, they used for crust the flour of wonderbread, having a form of Pizza, but denying the power thereof.Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia

Have you ever tried Nevole's Pizzeria in Draper? It is honest to goodness NY Pizza.Originally posted by pellegrino View PostI'm going to pull a pizza snob and say that until the Settebello Pizzeria opened in SLC Utah did not know what pizza was.

The guy who owns it is the grandson of the Nevole's Pizzeria that used to be on 39th and Broadway in Manhattan. That one closed when the owner retired. I've actually had the privilege of eating there one time.
Anyway, the grandson was on the US Olympic bobsled team in the '84 Winter Olympics. He then became a coach for the team and when the US Team relocated to Park City, he was depressed that he couldn't find NY pizza here. (He told me that he had tried the Pie and loved it, but it wasn't NY style). So he contacted his grandpa and asked what could be done to reopen his grandpa's pizzeria. His grandpa told him that if he could get the same cheeses and sauces from the supplier in NY to ship their goods to SLC, he'd do it. The companies said okey dokey and Nevole's opened up here about 10 years ago - first at a little strip mall in West Jordan, then it moved to it's current location in Draper. It is awesome and IMO better than Settebello."Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance and the gospel of envy; its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - Winston Churchill

Sounds like they opened about the same time I moved away from Utah, the only reason I even know about Settebello is because a friend told me about it and we went there last Christmas while we were in town. Sounds like Nevole's is good food, but even so, New York pizza, while good, is still different from high quality pizza in Italy. I think the VPN certification that Settebello and other pizzerias have is the closest thing to pizza as God originally intended it to be.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostHave you ever tried Nevole's Pizzeria in Draper? I am a NY pizza guy. In Utah I like Big Apple, Este, and Nevole's. NYPD in Draper, not so much.
I also love the Pie, but I do know some people that don't like it nearly as much - usually because of the amount of cheese. Surprisingly, there are people that think you can put too much cheese on a pizza.
Unfortunately, I rarely eat at the Pie because of my wife. She has an extremely sensitive nose and every time I eat there, she won't come near me for a couple days.
I've heard great things about Settebello, but I've yet to make it in."It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. To lose to Utah State is horrible." - John White IV

You are one of the few Utah people I trust on matters of food (moreso because you've been around the block, so to speak). I think it was your recommendation that put us at the Pie in the first place. I might try a couple of those places next time I am in town.Originally posted by kccougar View PostI am a NY pizza guy. In Utah I like Big Apple, Este, and Nevole's. NYPD in Draper, not so much.

I've had both Este and Nevole's. I liked both, but Nevole's crust was closer to the pies I had in New York (my standard Pizza Garden in Flushing).Originally posted by kccougar View PostI am a NY pizza guy. In Utah I like Big Apple, Este, and Nevole's. NYPD in Draper, not so much.

Settebello is fantastic. Clean, good flavors with high quality ingredients. In my opinion, their simplier pizzas are better and highlight the subtle flavors better than the ones piled with 5 kinds of sausage. The basic margherita is my favor, but the bianca pizza with a white sauce, arugula, and shaved parmaggiano reggiano is wonderful and a close 2nd."You know, I was looking at your shirt and your scarf and I was thinking that if you had leaned over, I could have seen everything." ~Trial Ad Judge

I don't know if I've ever had NY pizza. I've had "NY style" pizza before, but I don't know enough about the original to know if it was a good copy. I've never been to N.Y.
Niku, or others in the know, do you know of a "good" N.Y. pizza place in Vegas? There are so many New Yorkers here, there's got to be a few good pizza places around here. And don't tell me Broadway Pizza is good N.Y. pizza, b/c then I'll know that you've all been eating crap and telling the rest of us how awesome it is.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I lived in Vegas in my barely post-mish, pre-NY, pre-foodie days. So my idea of a good meal at the time was the buffet at the Luxor (the Rio being on the other side of the freeway and the Bellagio being too expensive). So the answer is I don't know. I'll have to check around next time I am in town.Originally posted by falafel View PostI don't know if I've ever had NY pizza.
