My 2 oldest, 13 and 11, love it. I love crushing their hopes and dreams and beating them at the end as we add up all the points.

Ticket to Ride is a great game. My 7 year old loves it. I am kicking myself for not picking it up on Amazon the other week when it was less than $30. We got her Uno and Skip Bo to put in her stocking. I have been thinking of getting her Stratego and maybe Guess Who for the younger one.

A 2-year child that doesn't sleep makes playing games incredibly difficult. We have picked up some more games over the past year or so, but haven't got a chance to play them much. However, there are a few that I really like that we have gotten lately.
Castles of Burgundy. I wanted to have a game with a dice mechanic. I have played it 2-3 times and have enjoyed it. Mechanics are fairly simple, but the strategy is not easy to grasp. It is on the longer side of the games that I actually enjoy. However, it avoids the 1 hour building your road thing that many don't like.
Lords of the Waterdeep. A D&D themed euro game. Worker placement that reminds me a bit of Stone Age, but I liked it more than Stone Age. I highly recommend this game. It is one of the more impressive games that I have as far as components go.
Galaxy Trucker. Haven't had a chance to play a full game yet. Every time I've tried to play something comes up. Love the mechanic of building the ships and the game has a lot of humor in it.
I don't have a copy, but I have played the card game Gloom a couple of times. Not sure how it plays with 2 people, but I don't see it not working well with 2. Interesting mechanic as most of the cards are mostly see through and stack on top of each other.

Went with Labyrinth, Ratatat Cat, and Ticket to Ride a White Line Highway.
Should be fun.

Labyrinth is a great game.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostWas reading the sleepover thread and some of the older posts referencing childhood sleepover memories. The old MB game, "Dark Tower," popped into my head. Does anyone here remember that game? I loved it and thought the rotating/light up tower was so cool. These days functioning versions of that game command hundreds of dollars.
I generally avoid games that involve a lot of yelling or stupid behavior (charade type games, pictionary, taboo, the one where everyone makes up a silly definition for an obscure word, etc). I also dont have the patience for games that require everyone to spend hours building their road or planting wheat or somesuch. Puffy Check now at an age when they can play games that require a little thinking, strategy, and treachery. Any suggestions that might fit the bill?
I really want to play Dark Tower, actually.
Gulo gulo. Chateau roquefort. Two more we've liked a lot.
Rat a tat cat is fun and still gets a lot of play.
Tier auf tier is another one our kids love.
All of the above are fun for kids and not mind numbingly boring, even fun for adults. Rat a tat cat is fairly cheap (card game) but the others are all 20-30 bucks because they're quality games. Roquefort is even more but it's a very well done game.
EDIT: Just looking these up and they're all getting tough to find. It's too bad--Gulo Gulo was one of our kids' favorites and is a fun dexterity game that little fingers can do well at. I'd get Labyrinth and Rat a tat Cat. And Tier auf Tier (http://www.amazon.com/Haba-3678-Anim...=tier+auf+tier).
All three of these still get a lot of play in our house. The others probably aren't worth what you'll have to pay now.

We play a lot of Clue around here. Here is an anecdotal sampling for you. Conversation I had with the kids just now:Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostAny suggestions that might fit the bill?
[Me]: Hey what are your favorite board games to play?
[11yo]: Clue and Chess.
[9yo]: Clue and Life.
[7yo]: Clue and Clue.
[Me]: Clue and Clue? I thought you liked to play Apples to Apples.
[7yo]: Oh, I love Apples to Apples!
[Me]: Why did you say "Clue and Clue" then?
[7yo]: You said board games. Apples to Apples is a card game.

I've pimped this game in this thread before, but I'll re-pimp, since I think it fits the bill. It's a strategy game, but it's usually over in about 20-30 minutes, depending on how many players (2, 3, or 4). I play it with my daughter, who I think is roughly the same age as your patojos.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostWas reading the sleepover thread and some of the older posts referencing childhood sleepover memories.
