Okay so I have slacked in my Medeski, Martin, and Wood fandom. However, I have decided that I simply must get back into the MMW game and give the new stuff a listen.
I have now listened through Radiolarians a few times and it is a qualify addition to the MMW catalog. I love the concept of the Radiolarians albums that instead of writing material and touring with it, to tour with new ideas in mind and let the stuff develop on tour. It produced some really solid free form MMW stuff. I really enjoyed End of the World Party, but felt the songs were cut short and over produced. Radiolarians solved that problem by doing what MMW does best, let the improvisation develop the music.
I have just started listening to Zaebos Book of Angels and damn it is an amazing album. It was interested because Zorn is such an amazing composer and MMW does great work with his music. I would put this near the top of the MMW albums. It is very out, which is what I like best about MMW.
