    Paul McCartney

So I bought tickets to see Sir Paul in concert, but after watching his performance on Letterman, I'm having second thoughts. I didn't imagine this would be just an overwhelming show, but I figured it'd be cool to be able to say I saw McCartney live. And the playlist is pretty good. But now I'm beginning to think this might border on aural assault.

I suppose if it comes down to it I can always give the tickets to Funk. I know he loves all things Beatles.

Go. You'll be glad you saw McCartney live.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Go. Take some coupons to Outback Steakhouse and give them to security to pass along to Paul.

        Good thought.

My son keeps asking if "Mingo" is going to be there.

If Mingo was there, that would be enough to seal the deal for me.

For the price of tickets, you'd think John and George were going to make an appearance.

Well then, Paul should buy you dinner at Outback.

LOL, speaking of Ringo, there is a crazy old man in my neighborhood that shows up to church a few times a year is is convinced that he is Ringo Star. He wears a Beatles vest, a royal purple suede suit and what appear to be blowpop rings. He speaks with the worst British accesnt I have ever heard and his wife follows him around wearing a tiara. I have got so many hilarious stories about the guy, him being at church is one of the few times I don't skip sunday school.

I would think that even at his age, he still puts on a great show. When you got it, you got it.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Did he sing Yesterday or any Beatles songs? Those were what 90% of the crowd were there for.

I have respect for Sir Paul. Years ago, a band I was in thought it would be cool to do a cover of "Revolution."

We discovered we couldn't get Harrison's guitar to sound good.

Then we discovered we couldn't get Lennon's vocals to sound good.

Then we discovered we couldn't get the bass to flop in there like McCartney's does. That bass line is simple, but it isn't easy to get it right.

Then we chose to cover "Here Comes the Sun," instead. That went much better.

Do you believe that was really Paul McCartney????

absolutely! It was the perfect McCartney playlist. Like DnF suggested, McCartney is a showman at heart, and knows what the people want. He sang his few big hits from his solo/wings career (though thankfully he skipped that awful "loves songs" song), and all of "his" songs from the Bea-les. Plus one wildcard - a little ditty they threw in just for the Texas concert - they sang a Buddy Holly tribute. That was cute.

But yes...all the big ones. Women were weeping during Yesterday and Let It Be (I admit I had goosebumps). The crowd went nuts for When I Saw Her Standing There. And is there anything cooler than singing along to the Hey Jude "na na na"s with sixty thousand other people? I can't think of anything.

But what made it great was Sir Paul himself. A consummate showman. He has amazing charisma and presence from the stage. Some artists go back on the road because they want the money or feel obligated. With Paul you can tell that he thrives off of the audience. Seventy years old, one of his last venues, performed for over two hours without a break, and he was having a great time. He's something else.
