Finished Sing, Unburied, Sing. Easily the finest novel I've read this year and I believe it will prove to be more than "just" a best of 2017. This is a book that could win major prizes and it feels like a work that could be of enduring significance in American literature. The last time I felt so strongly about a novel was my first reading of Robinson's Gilead.

Currently reading The Drop by Michael Connelly. He's at the top of my list of favorite authors along with Walter Mosley. I just finished his book All I Did was Shoot My Man. Before that was Vince Flynn Pursuit of Honor. I'm reading him a second time. Too bad he died and can't write more books.
I put each of the above authors slightly ahead of John Grisham - I've read every one of his "adult" books.
I had high hopes for Lee Child but after reading 61 hours I wasn't sure if I was going to read the rest of his books or not.

Just finished A Gentleman in Moscow, based on some recommendations here. It was a decent book, but I didn't love it."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

I think it could be made into a good movie, if done properly. I liked the characters and the story, but it kind of dragged on.Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostSounds like you just need a snifter of brandy."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Swedish novel about a grumpy old dude. It is a book about relationships and redemption. Recommended.

This book requires patience. The payoff is at the end. But I won't be the least bit offended if you don't try again. Read what you enjoy!Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostI've tried twice to listen on Duderino's quoted recommendation. I just finished another Bosch novel - The Black Box. I swear there are elements of this book in Season 3 of Bosch, although the notes for that season list 3 other books as the inspiration for the season.
Oh well. If you like Bosch, this is another good one.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I have avoided the series because I figured it would be a let down."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

If you liked the Bosch novels, I think you'll like the series. Connelly is an executive producer on it and I think has a lot of input.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI cranked through all the Connelly-Bosch novels several years ago. Always a good read.

Titus Welliver is really good as Bosch, so much that I have begun to picture him in my mind when I read the novels. As I've mentioned elsewhere in the board, Welliver now does the audio book narration on the newer Bosch novels as well.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different.
