I did last month. It ends up being sad and heartwarming. But it takes a while to get there. I was glad I stuck with it, but I am not sure I would highly recommend it.

    • I have started The 3-Body Problem. Has anyone read this? I am doing the audio book so I find myself not fully engaged but it has been interesting. I am also starting Red Storm by Tom Clancy

3 body problem was really engaging and I enjoyed it. Depending on how much you enjoy it, finishing the trilogy is an open question. For me it got too bogged down at the end.

I bowed out in Book 2. Got half way through and noped.

Meanwhile I am listening to Ice by Jacek Dukaj. This thing is 57 hours long or 1200 pages. I guess they don't have editors in Poland, because this could be 1/2 as long and still be too long. It is speculative history/science fiction/eastern european steam punk. Unless that is your thing, I don't recommend. Not sure how this got on my list, but there it is and dammit I am going to finish it.

Also reading the new Tana French. The 3rd in the her western/irish series. Love her books.

That's exactly the attitude I had finishing the 3 body problem and poppy war trilogies. I should have quit after 1, max 2 books and started something else.

I'm enjoying Raven Scholar right now. Again, a fantasy...

            • After years (maybe months) of my friends recommending it, I finally started the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. I'm only half way through the first book, but it is a lot of fun. The audiobook narrator sounds a bit too much like Patrick Warburton, but I'm told he tones that down a bit later.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

                2. Dungeon Crawler Carl is fun. Please tell me you are doing it on Audiobook. Jeff Hayes is phenomenal. He does all of the voices himself. So good. I am 7 books deep into that series and can't wait for book 8 in a few months.

The rest of these folks in here are pinky up readers. You and I can hang.
I love PHM! And of course Carl and Princess Donut. Can I please hang?

I did audio for Dungeon Crawler Carl #1 a couple of months ago. Really enjoyed it, and you're right, the narrator is fantastic. It took me a lot of work to convince myself that the narrator wasn't Puddy from Seinfeld.
                  I always pictured Kronk.

                    100% you can.

Have you read the Bobiverse series? That is the next logical step after you get through DCC.

No, but the same group of friends have been recommending that for a while. I'm Glad to get another positive opinion.

They are fantastic. Ray Porter is the orator (of PHM fame) and does a great job.

                        The writing is pretty fantastic.

If you are up for a longer series (19 books and counting) the Columbus Day (Expeditionary Force) series is really good also.

                        • I recently saw a video of Ray Porter and he was definitely one where my mental image was VERY off. Which is not uncommon for voice actors (H Jon Benjamin springs to mind).

I enjoyed the Bobiverse books. They go by very fast. The next to last one slowed down a bit but I thought the last one was better.

I like military fiction, so this sounds interesting. Thanks!

It is really really good. Military fiction, science fiction, and artificial intelligence.

It is a lot, but I look forward to the new book every year.

3 Body Problem was great. Takes a while to get into it, but it pays off in the end. Also good to read before watching the series on Netflix.

Red Storm Rising is also good. Fun what-if the Cold War went warm (conventional warfare, not nuclear). Sappy love story embedded as well. Early Clancy was among the best ever.
