    Just finished the book on the Shackleton expedition ("Endurance").

    It has been in my library for a few years. Each time I went to read it I thought "I already know the basic elements of that story." Wow, I am glad I finally read it. The details of the story are mind-blowing. Great book.

        Good book - Shakleton's a fascinating character.

        I just finished "The Emperor of All Maladies" about Cancer. Somewhere back in the thread some of our MD's recommended it. I also remember seeing the author on BookTV.

        The author tells the story of cancer for the era of Hipporates (SP) and Galen right down to modern times. He traces how our understanding of it has change as well as how we treat it. He is a practicing oncologist and weaves the stories of some of his patients into the story.

        Great book - I thought it was a five star read and highly recommend it if you haven't read it

            The Nix, by Nathan Hill. I'm halfway through it and so far it may be the best novel I've read this year. Hill is incredibly funny but the novel is much more than comedy. Characters are well developed and the breadth and depth of emotion has been quite impressive. This is his debut novel and I expect we'll be hearing his name a lot over the years. Apparently the tv option was sold before the book was even released and JJ Abrams and Meryl Streep will be producing with Abrams directing several episodes.

                        Swedish novel about a grumpy old dude. It is a book about relationships and redemption. Recommended.

                                            "The Emperor's Soul' by Brandon Sanderson. A creative fantasy-ish quick read. I was looking for another Sanderson book after really enjoying the Mistborn trilogy, but I wasn't yet ready to delve into another epic series. Read it in one Sunday.

                                            I liked it. Sanderson really is a good author.

                                                Listening to book 2 of the Mistborn trilogy right now. Liking this genre more than I thought I would.
