I saw it yesterday with my son. First off, I don't get the "R" rating. No "F" word, no sex, no nudity. Plenty of violence, but mainly shoot-em-up stuff that was about a 3 on a scale of 10, with "Saving Private Ryan" or "The Passion" as 10.

Great acting by both Christian Bale and Johnny Depp. Depp actually got me to care about the John Dillinger character - only a little, but given Dillinger's nature, that's an achievement. Also, even though we all know how the story will end, there are several truly suspenseful moments. You can feel the tension the FBI agents and their quarry are feeling.

All in all, a great movie. Terrific summer entertainment to boot.

Acting was exceptional. I thought the script was weak and a little disjointed.

Depp is a very underrated actor and kept it bearable for me.

I saw it. I was really distracted by others in the theatre (I hate going to Provo and running into all of these people I half know in the most random of places) and could never really get into the movie. Of course, that is not a critique of the movie itself, just something that affected my viewing of the movie.

On the movie itself, I was really underwhelmed. I had read some good reviews before going but it didn't live up to what I thought it would be. The relationship between Dillinger and Billie seemed underdeveloped. There were way too many characters than could be properly maintained and the locations always seemed to be disjointed to me (where is he again?). The movie at times seemed to want to be a tragic love story, at other times it wanted to be a shoot-em-up and it never decided which way it wanted to go.

Overall, a 6/10 on the strength of Depp and some nice cinematography.

Also, this movie reminded me how much I dislike Christian (Santa Fe) Bale.

I thought it was an OK movie. Depp was good. The story was interesting, but from what I've read about Dillinger's robberies, the movie would have been better off being more true to history. Apparently Dillinger once robbed a bank by having his gang dress up as a film crew and act like they were shooting a movie. This and other interesting stories were completely omitted from the film. I don't think the film portrayed Dillinger's ingenuity adequately.

Finally got around to seeing it this weekend, and I endorse this post whole-heartedly. Too many characters, too much jumping from place to place, and either too much or too little time put into the romantic plot, depending on what the movie was trying to convey.

I was just busting your chops a little bit. I don't think it is that big of deal. I try and avoid most R-type movies or TV myself and emphasize it to the youth, but for adults it ranks around caffeinated soda on my worry list, which is very low.
