  • As I can tell Babs Knows

Farrah died today after her battle with cancer. Sad. My family once camped on the beach in Mexico with Farrah and Lee Majors when I was about 6. They pulled up next to us in a jeep, set up their stuff next to ours and spent the week camping with them and hanging out with us. I remember what a crush I had on her.

Sorry to see you go Farrah.

ON THE BEACH?? Good thing you weren't 16. You might have died of cardiac arrest right there.

Me, I love the unknown stuntman.

you know, this actually is really depressing. An entire life summed up by a haircut and a swimsuit. yikes.

to be fair, FF has done quite a bit of work for female advocacy groups. Her portrayal in The Burning Bed is fairly iconic and one of the most well-known examples of spousal abuse awareness in cinema/tv.

Farrah is an icon of the 70s....a time of indulgence and excess, wild fashion, and over-stylized glamor. Charlies Angel's unshered in the era of Jiggle TV....shows like Threes Company and even Baywatch can trace their bra-less roots back to Aaron Spelling's genius concept.

I don't find her life to be depressing at all. In fact, I think her story is cool....she moved to Hollywood, made it big, became a star, and lived a fairly productive life (not without pitfalls).

This is the fate of anyone who uses their looks as part of their fame. Had she not let those photos be taken, would she have been as popular? Probably not.....she benefited over the course of her life from the swimsuit photos of her. If you let someone take a picture of you in a swimsuit on your hands and knees, and you have a body like hers, you make yourself an object. I'm sure a billion trillion kittens have been killed because of that poster. That people, many of whose early sexual attraction is tied to an image of someone from their youth, would remember those images first is basic semiotics and memory recall.

The Burning Bed was great, but that's not why she was famous.

No, it's the fate of celebrity.

                        Hence, "fame!"

people will see me and cry, yes. Exactly. See, it doesn't have to be associated with good looks.

This is sad for so many reasons. Very sad.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

                              And the smile.

                              And the face.

                              And the body.
