    A Cheers remake?

I was listening to the Bill Simmons podcast the other day, and he had one of his friends on tossing out random ideas (insert Simmons bash here).

Anyway, one of the ideas was a Chicago Cheers. Essentially, you remake the show in Chicago instead of Boston, recast all the exact same characters, and generally use the old scripts.

I don't think I've watched more than three minutes total of Cheers, so I don't think I'd care either way.

But is this something any of you would be interested in? I'm just curious and bored on a Friday afternoon at work.

I loved Cheers but am not remotely interested in this idea.

why don't we remake MASH while we're at it. We could use the same scripts and characters, but put it in Afghanistan.

Why would anyone think it would be a good idea to take a classic and remake it with same characters and script? Has this model EVER been implemented? I think there is a reason this has never happened before....

I get the feeling that this is what's happening when I watch some of the modern versions of Star Trek.............."Wait, I swear I've seen this before."

That's actually a great idea. I especially look forward to the remake of that one episode where Hawkeye and Trapper's antics annoy Hot Lips and/or Burns and hilarity ensues.

You need to change the setting from "stun" to "kill"

The interesting thing about Cheers is it brought in quite a few new actors and characters and it kept chugging along. Shelly Long (the second biggest role on the show and probably the worst career move in history) was replaced with Kirstie Alley, the show did fine and probably became more popular. The guy who played Coach died, and in comes Woody Harrelson. That may have also been a minor improvement. Frasier wasn't around the first couple seasons. Perhaps there was something to Cheers's setup itself that allowed for new characters to come in and be as popular or more popular than characters that were there the whole time.

I wouldn't be opposed to a Chicago Cheers. The Sam Malone character would turn into a former Chicago Cubs pitcher. You'd have the cool Cubs-Bears-Bulls sports scene background that could be included in the show. First, find a guy exactly like Vince Vaughn to play the Sam Malone character.

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
