    "Helvetica"

    I watched a feature length documentary on (don't laugh) Helvetica last night. The film covers how Helvetica became the default typeface of corporate and government communication. The underlying theme is the pull and push of modernism vs. post modernism. The film is a tad long, but overall it was interesting a well done.

    My dad has a MFA in design and I can remember as a kid playing with press fonts of his and reading books of typefaces and logotypes. I traced them for hours.

      Someone referred me to the film after last year's Full Frame Documentary Film Festival (in Durham, NC). I thought it was really well done. Fascinating, actually.

              No reason to laugh. Design affects many facets of our lives and typography is a big part of that. I've seen parts of this documentary but have never found a place that has it. And no, I don't have a Netflix account.

                      I imagine it's because I am so left brained but I can't imagine a movie about that ... I just can't.

                          I love this book and movie. The book more, but also the movie.

                              I also loved this movie. I thought the most fascinating part was when it talked about how font experts cant really enjoy historical movies, because of all the anachronisms they find in the typefaces of signs etc.

                              My favorite variant is Helvetica French, depicted with a beautiful sample phrase, "50 55 Venez me trouver mon amour 7"
