It is a nice look. T-Swift has many nice looks in the video. However, none of them work as much as the black motif.

Not every artist can be Radiohead.

She writes her stuff, plays on her albums, and actually sings live. In an era where Ke$ha can be a star I find Swifty a breath of fresh air.

I am not trying to denigrate her. I have agreed from the get go that she writes some very catchy tunes. But the Beatles she isn't.

I would take over Keisha any time. As you suggest

I just discovered Begin Again from her Red Album. I think the lyrics are really very good. If you were to write a sad, poignant song about a failed love and the hollow, desolated aftermath, how would you put it?

Here's how Tove Lo puts it (a 27 year old songwriter just a little older than Taylor Swift):

I eat my dinner in my bathtub
Then I go to sex clubs
Watching freaky people gettin' it on
                  It doesn't make me nervous
                  If anything I'm restless
Yeah, I've been around and I've seen it all

I get home, I got the munchies
                  Binge on all my Twinkies
                  Throw up in the tub
                  Then I go to sleep
And I drank up all my money
                  Dazed and kinda lonely

You're gone and I gotta stay
                  High all the time
To keep you off my mind
                  Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
                  High all the time
To keep you off my mind
                  Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh
Spend my days locked in a haze
                  Trying to forget you babe
                  I fall back down
Gotta stay high all my life
                  To forget I'm missing you
                  Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh

Pick up daddies at the playground
How I spend my day time
                  Loosen up the frown,
                  Make them feel alive
Oh, make it fast and greasy
I'm numb and way too easy

You're gone and I gotta stay
                  High all the time...
Taylor Swift tells the same story by contrasting the differences in her old relationship with her ex, to the burgeoning differences she's just discovering with a boy she just met. The differences with her ex are negative, and the differences in new guy are positive. You don't know if the new guy is a new love interest, or if he is merely an indication of her willingness to pick up from her life and begin again with someone else. The lyrics are so much more mature and interesting, despite Tove Lo's adult themed lyrics.

I said "ultimately forgettable" and "pretty forgettable." And she is and will be. Compare her stuff to someone like Carol King. Great songs, good melodies, interesting chord progressions (at least for King) and they both sing their own stuff. No one really cares much about Carol King anymore, except the old farts that grew up with it. TS will be the same way. Except for the kiddies who grew up with it and you (unless you're dead by then) no one will care about her when she's on the state fair summer circuit. That's OK, as it is thus with almost all pop artists.

I am not sure what your point is. Do you really contend that she is anything other than the pop princess of the day? Do you think her music is meaningful beyond selling CDs/downloads all over the world? Just like others have done and will do? I know she's popular. But, ultimately, so what? Ultimately, she's pretty forgettable.

I didn't watch the video, to be honest. I am sure it moved you very much.
