  • Late Night With Seth Meyers

I think this show is going to be really great. Seth may not be as talented musically, but he can deliver a joke a heck of a lot better.

    Also, this happened:

Fred Armisen as band leader??? If he is there in a Paul Shaffer-like capacity, this show is going to be amazing- not to mention the skits! What a great choice for a sidekick.

I already like this show better.

we need to go back through these late night threads to see who has been completely wrong in predicting success and failure and who has been correct.

Seth Meyers is going to fare much better in his slot than Jimmy will in his, mostly because Seth has the easier time slot.

Jimmy is going to face the same issues Conan faced but hopefully Fallon can adapt more effectively.
    Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

My prediction is that Fallon has decent numbers out of the gate, struggles for about a year and then hits his stride. His brand of comedy plays much better to an older audience than Conan humor. Fallon will also attract younger viewers to make up for some of the long time Leno fans who walk away.

The problem with the Tonight Show is the demographic. The average age for Leno was like 57. Fallon is going to have a hard time (as anyone of his age and appeal would) getting those folks to buy in. Conan couldn't bring his core audience and appeal to the older folks. I really like Fallon and hope he succeeds, but I really don't see this working out too well for him and NBC. It will be interesting to see the show in NYC. I know some blamed Conan's failure partly on moving to LA. But the Tonight Show is an LA show (I know it started in NYC) if that makes sense so it will be interesting to see that dynamic play out. Also, Lorne Michaels will be producing the show, along with the Late Night Show and SNL basically dominating NBC late night TV. I wonder if any cross promotion there will turn on or off viewers.

I like Seth immensely and I'm sure he will be very successful in his new endeavor, but this is just another in a long list of reminders that I'm getting old.

I was reading an article last week about Chevy Chase being a royal a-hole, and the article mentioned that one of the only former SNL cast members to show up to Chevy's roast was Paul Shaffer (infact he MC'd the event). I didn't even know that he was a former cast member. You learn something everyday.

Is Fred Arminsen going to try and be funny? That'll be a new twist, I can see him as Paul Scaffer, who is basically the most annoying person on tv.

His on-stage persona is going to be Ferecito.

Fred Armisen is a comedy virtuoso. I used to not like him until something clicked one day- love that guy.

Anyway, here's a couple of my favorite clips of him:

The main issue for that slot is demographic, as you said.

simply put, college age kids don't come home at 1030 or whatever to watch TV. They will watch at 1235am, however. This is primarily why conan completely bombed and is still languishing on cable at a weird time slot with mediocre ratings.

conans humor doesn't work for that audience. Hopefully Fallon will work, but he will have to make changes.

it is interesting to note that Seth Meyers' format sounds more like a tonight show format, Meyers doesn't sing or rap or dance.

Neon Trees on the show tonight. Branden Campbell wore a BYU shirt. Elaine Brandley wore a shirt that stated "Porn Kills Love." I kind of like the new song.

Actually, I found it quite noteworthy and awesome that David Lovering is sitting in with the band this week! :rockon2:
