Anyone else watching this show? I didn't think this would be a show I would like, and there are parts of it that I don't like (any scene with Masters's wife, for example) ... but it has really grown on me. Allison Janey in particular is excellent. Has some graphic sex scenes, but it has been tasteful for the most part.

I might have to check it out if Allison Janey is in it. I loved her so much on the West Wing and haven't seen her in a decent role since.Originally posted by UVACoug View PostAnyone else watching this show? You'll see C.J. (whom I liked a lot as well) in a different light, but she knocks it out of the park. As the smart yet naive wife of a distinguished doctor/administrator who has had furtive gay relationships with younger men throughout their marriage, her eyes are finally opened and her portrayal of that realization is heartbreaking but superbly done. Watching the attitudes toward homosexuality, including the available "treatments", during the '50s is fascinating.Originally posted by woot View PostI might have to check it out if Allison Janey is in it. The show is definitely NSFW (work or wives, your choice), but much of it is really good. I'm aware we have one or more board physicians here who trained at Washington University and I'd be curious if they've seen the show and what they think of it. It certainly shows how attitudes toward sex have really messed us up over the years.

Gidget loves the show. We watched the first 4-5 episodes together but then I kind of got bored with it as the love story emerged and I grew annoyed with Masters and his wife. I watch now here and there if it is on and I am not interested in the Sunday Night Football game. It's not DVR worthy for me. The girl who plays Virginia Johnson isn't very attractive in the show and I struggle not seeing her as her character from Mean Girls when I watch. I think that the most compelling part of the show is the relationship between Allison Janey and Beau Bridges. I caught last night's episode which I thought was good.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

She has also been playing in "Mom" which is now down to 11th episode. You may want to catch her there. Quite a funny show.Originally posted by woot View PostI mean I'm sure she's been in stuff. She was in the way way back, but that was pretty meh for me and her role was small and didn't play to her strengths. I can't remember seeing her in anything else.

The Way Way Back, Touchy Feely, Juno, Hairspray, Life During Wartime, The Help, Away We Go...you don't think any of these roles was even decent?Originally posted by woot View PostI mean I'm sure she's been in stuff. Yeah I guess I haven't seen most of those. I'm also at the point where TV series are so much more engaging than movies that it's hard to even compare them.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostThe Way Way Back, Touchy Feely, Juno, Hairspray, Life During Wartime, The Help, Away We Go...you don't think any of these roles was even decent?
And The West Wing is in my pantheon of best TV shows of all time along with only a couple others (the usual suspects), and she had a lot to do with that. So my expectations are probably too high.

I got bored when Bill and Virginia started having sex too. Almost stopped watching all together. The last few episodes have been a lot more interesting though. I don't really care much about the sex research stuff at all, but the stuff surrounding that storyline has been interesting ... especially the storyline with Allison Janney and Beau Bridges.Originally posted by Surfah View PostGidget loves the show.
