Surfah's comment about "Drive being the wrong Ryan Gosling movie" to get Gidget in the mood got me thinking about other movies where a heartthrob actor works to combat that image as much as possible. One of my favorite moviegoing experiences ever was seeing Seven on opening night in 1995. Brad Pitt was in the midst of full-on Pittmania in the wake of Legends of the Fall and my friends and I kind of hated the prettyboy. Seven was his first movie after Legends and the theater had far more women in it than men. My group consisted of me, my friend and 5 other girls as well.
The first time Pitt showed up on screen, there were a bunch of "Wooo!" calls and applauding from the crowd. My hopes for the movie were not high. Then we saw the first dead body; the one who was forced to eat himself to death. From that point on, following several walkouts, the theater went deathly silent and my respect for Mr. Pitt began to build.
