The Mrs. and I saw Up this weekend. I thought it was pretty good and enjoyable but not overwhelmingly great. Prior to seeing the movie, I remember scanning through this thread and several had mentioned the fact that they cried during the movie. Which parts made you cry? I went into thinking there would be something super emotional and tear-inducing, but that moment never came for me. Perhaps I just lack a soul.

I thought the 3D was pretty cool. Typically I don't like 3D at all, but I dug how this one didn't feel like shit was flying at your face but rather seemed to be at the same distance just with greater depth and dimension.

I have a co-worker who is unable to have children with his wife. They are struggling trying to adopt.

If that sequence showing the pieces of their life together didn't get to you, then nothing will man. You need to find wherever it is you left your soul, and cry some man tears.

I've been thinking about this and come to the conclusion that my lack of emotion toward Up is due to a general disconnect that I have with animated characters. Some of the scenes in Up were cute, funny, etc., but I can't recall the last time animation made me feel any sense of genuine emotion. I guess that at the end of the day, idk, the characters just don't feel all that real to me. I suppose you could always say that no character is real, but I'm just more inclined to feel a greater kinship or sense of relatability to characters played by real actors.

I was going to ask this when I saw the movie but forgot. How did your kids respond to Up? The whole time I was watching it, I couldn't help but think it didn't seem all that kid friendly. Or at least it wasn't the type of film I could see kids getting really excited about.

my kiddds loved it. they liked the talking dogs, the crazy bird, the balloons, the adventure, etc. The found some parts to be scary and I don't think they related at all to the opening montage or the storyline about his relationship with his wife and their life together.

The one scene they dislike....when he hits the construction guy on the head with a cane.

They frequently watch a backup copy that I have on my laptop....3 times a week. They would watch more if we would allow them.

Also, Diz has this huge inflatable Up house in the courtyard area between the Diz and CalAd entrances. So seeing all the merch and adverts makes them even more excited about the movie.

My kids loved it. My wife had a visiting teacher that responded to about the same way PAC's ward member responded to Wicked. Saying what a horrible story, Death, wife is infertile, dogs are mean. It was pretty funny. I will have to get her to copy what she wrote, but the gist is Up was inappropriate for kids of any age.

Sure, but they also have main characters that are kids, toys, or cute little animals, so there is some type of appeal on a younger level. They have adult themes but through what I would view as more approachable characters for kids. Or at least that's been my obervation based on the Pixar films I've seen (which is only a handful, btw).

I was just kind of wondering how kids related to a movie whose feature character was an old man. When I left the theater, I felt more like it was a movie I would recommend to people my age than my nieces and nephews.
