What an impressive turnaround for Affleck. His career as an actor had become a joke. Then he directs Gone Baby Gone, The Town and now Argo. Well done.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
We're going to see it here in a little bit. I'll return and report.
"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.

Hot damn! This is one helluva good movie. The acting was superb, the direction was fantastic, and it made me remember all those confusing times from my childhood. It's amazing to me how seeing a photo of the Ayatollah still inspires a fearful reaction in me.
The film is great and there are some keenly meta-fictional moments in it since it's a movie about making a movie, including one line where a character tells Affleck that you can train a rhesus monkey in 24 hours how to direct a film.
I can really find no flaw with the film until the last damned line.
Spoiler for Spoiler:
Jimmy Carter's voice comes on and starts bragging a little and says that he's proud that they were able to get all of the hostages out peacefully. At that point I said aloud in the theater, "only because your damned choppers crashed in the desert."
Other than that one speck of revisionist nonsense, it's great filmmaking. Alan Arkin and Affleck were especially good.

Obviously they put a ton of exciting and entertaining stuff into the movie that didn't actually happen -- but I guess that is what makes it a movie "based on a true story" instead of a documentary.

My wife and I saw it last night and thought it was great as well. It was very different from what was written in Wired Magazine that I read some years ago but the Hollywood version is very entertaining. Uncle Ted recommended.
"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
"I honestly believe saying someone is a smart lawyer is damning with faint praise. The smartest people become engineers and scientists." -SU. "Yet I still see wisdom in that which Uncle Ted posts." -creek. GIVE 'EM HELL, BRIGHAM!
Saw it last night and really enjoyed it. Not as much as The Town, but Affleck is fast becoming one of my favorite directors.
Ben Affleck is fast becoming one of my favorite men in a beard. Rarr!(Especially since HFN shaved his. )
What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.
