  • I saw Creed III the other day-- I am a complete sucker for all the Rocky movies. They are like pizza to me...

My wife and I are huge Wes Anderson fans. I can't wait.

      • I like Wes Anderson films (I used to say I loved them), but it feels like he just stopped evolving. Or, perhaps, he just continues to boil the same sauce down to its most reduced state. But actors keep signing up to do them. I wonder if being in his films is kind of like being in a Woody Allen movie. Lots of actors would like to say they've been in one of his movies just to check that box.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Yep. This is where I am. Somewhere around Moonrise Kindgom or Budapest Hotel it sank in—these are all unique enough to be amusing, but much too similar to be truly entertaining for me anymore.

          • I’m not a big film watcher in general. I haven’t seen a single Wes Anderson film.

Watch Fantastic Mr. Fox and Grand Budapest Hotel. If you enjoyed those, cue up Isle of Dogs and The French Dispatch.

I have come to appreciate them even more. We recently watched a bunch of them agin. Every scene and every bit of dialogue is so carefully crafted that they are a pleasure to watch. Yes, it’s a consistent style, but it is unique and really fun.

I especially enjoy the symmetry and balance of nearly every scene, and how every actor deadpans his or her lines. I'd guess a great many scenes have to be re-shot because laughter can't be withheld for long.

                  • And by the way, I don't see any problem with a consistent style. Quentin Tarantino movies all have a consistent style and they are fantastic.

Me neither. But I've seen enough parody of his work that the preview could've been an SNL sketch.

                            • This discussion brings up an interesting question: Which is more hip and edgy? Liking Wes Anderson movies or being too cool for Wes Anderson movies?

                              Hmm...

Neither position is hip or edgy.
