I finally got around to watching this last night. Pretty interesting. I really became a fan of Anna Kournikovas little brother Allan. He just seemed to have fun and enjoy golf. Seemed like a pretty normal 8 year old boy.I just looked and he had won the kids European championships 4 years in a row now. He continues to dominate.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostThis week or next Short Game will be released. It's about seven-year-old golfers competing in national tournaments. From the preview, it's apparent most of the kids have better swings than those witnessed at South Mountain a couple of weeks ago.
Three of the featured kids will be on Jimmy Fallon tonight and the four of them will have a chipping contest.
The Tigress Amaria Avery is going to have some issues when she gets older. Her dad is a dickhead.
It is a pretty good doc, and most of the parents are about what you would expect and I hated a lot of these kids. But a few make you want to root for them.*Banned*

I'm a big Kevin Spacey fan, and I'm looking forward to seeing him as Richard Nixon in the forthcoming Elvis & Nixon, based on an incident in 1970 when The King showed up at the White House gate in the hope of meeting the President. Michael Shannon plays a very sinister-looking Elvis. The trailer looks great.

90% was referring to the percent of population (mostly baby boomers) who originally saw the Sturges' film -- orsaw the Cheers episode which referenced it and rented the VHS tape. I'm assuming 99% of the population have never heard of the 7 Samuari, unless they stumble across it on a Netflix deep dive. Both are excellentOriginally posted by Katy Lied View PostWould that be the John Sturges Magnificent Seven? or the Kurosawa Seven Samurai?

Both are good but the Sturges film has a much better theme/soundtrack.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View Post90% was referring to the percent of population (mostly baby boomers) who originally saw the Sturges' film -- orsaw the Cheers episode which referenced it and rented the VHS tape. Not much of a trailer yet, but this article about the November release of Bad Santa 2 has me cautiously optimistic that the sequel may be pretty good. The first movie was certainly only for, uh, select audiences, but I found it very entertaining. I'm glad the same actor is back to play Thurman; read the side bar about him. Three days after the actor graduated from college he got a call from the director to "get in shape, or the opposite of shape." He apparently succeeded, as Billy Bob Thornton observed: "It's just creepy," says Thornton. "His voice is deeper but he looks exactly the same, just a big version of Thurman, like someone put an air hose (in him) and blew him up."
This will mean an evening out with my demented sister, not with my wife.

Anybody else want to see Suicide Squad?
It looks like a guilty pleasure.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Pretty excited for Silence. What's not to love about a collaboration between Scorsese and Andrew Garfield and Kylo Ren? Okay, a collaboration between Scorsese and Daniel Day Lewis and Benicio Del Toro, the original team. Oh well. And set in 17th Century Japan, and based on Endo's book of the same name. Father Rodrigues watches as his Christian converts are tortured until he recants.
Wikipedia gives us this passage about the book:
Has Anyone read this book, Silence by Shusaku Endo?Rodrigues' journal depicts his struggles: he understands suffering for the sake of one's own faith; but he struggles over whether it is self-centered and unmerciful to refuse to recant when doing so will end another’s suffering. At the climactic moment, Rodrigues hears the moans of those who have recanted but are to remain in the pit until he tramples the image of Christ. As Rodrigues looks upon a fumie, Christ (who has hereto never spoken to the priest) breaks his silence:
“You may trample. You may trample. I more than anyone know of the pain in your foot. You may trample. It was to be trampled on by men that I was born into this world. It was to share men’s pain that I carried my cross.”
