I'm going to be one of those guys who pays to see that in the theatre. Hopefully Scorsese doesn't gum up all the gangster film tropes he pioneered and win another Best Picture.

Yep. That might be an opening night movie for me.

Because we don't have a "I Don't Wanna See That!" thread, I'll post this here. Before seeing the trailer, I would have thought I'd be willing to go if I were paid $50 and the popcorn were guaranteed to be good. But after seeing this, my price probably tripled. Great cast and production staff, big budget...clearly a case where the whole is much less than the sum of its parts.

Apologies to those who loved Cats, but re-seeing a bunch of people in fur slinking around like cats for two hours would be hellish for me. I felt that way during the Broadway production and this looks even worse. My marriage may be in for a stern test.

The thing I liked about the movie is it embraced the absolute absurdity of the Pokemon universe. Leading with Cubone's back-story (easily one of the most bizarre Pokemon story) was a sign that they were going to just lean into and have fun with an absurd universe.

The plot made no sense, which again fit the Pokemon universe.

I really enjoyed the movie. They did a good job with the digital Pokemon creatures. The movie was ultimately just entertaining. The kid loved the whole thing. I'd give it a solid 3 out of 4.

My kid's review was "it was cute and funny."

We saw it too. Kids loved it, and will smith's other son isn't such a bad actor. There were other bad actors in the movie (the female 'reporter' comes to mind) but that wasn't what the movie was about. Probably as good of a Pokemon movie as one could expect. I'd say this is the 1989 Michael Keaton Batman of Pokemon movies; they could do better, and they could definitely do worse.

Also, to the trainers that took down the gym at the movie theater only a few minutes into the movie, I will get my revenge.

I saw it with 3 of my kids.

It was pretty much exactly what I thought it would be, 2.5 stars out of 4.

Definitely only tolerable/interesting if you can tell a Snorlax from a Slaking.
