  • "ParaNorman" movie has first gay animated character.

    http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Hollywo...ated-character

My wife took 7 kids to see the new animated movie ParaNorman yesterday. She called me last night and said she had to answer some questions about why one of the guy characters has a boyfriend. In the movie Normans sister has a crush on another character who is a jock. At the end of the movie she asks him out to the movies and he responds "you will love my boyfriend, he loves chick-flicks". My wife said you could hear the parents in the theater gasp.

I am no homophobe, but I find it pretty dastardly to slip this into a kids movie. I don't think my wife would have taken my kids an their friends to see this movie had she known that scene was in there.

I took my kids to see it and didn't see it as a big deal.

The underlying message of this whole movie is tolerance, its kind of funny that people are getting upset about a character that is gay. Its not like it show a kiss, or anything like that, just a mention of a boyfriend.

I hope this isn't a spoiler, but I am pretty sure Mr. Smithers is gay.

I don't think my wife would have had a problem with it if it was just our kids. It was my daughters friends who had questions. My wife didn't feel it was her place to educate them.

That sounds a touch homophobic to me.

It's not homophobic. It's not wanting Hollywood to inculcate values.

Is it homophobic to view gay sex as wrong?

I feel the same way when Hollywood slips a married heterosexual couple into a movie. Dastardly! Stop inculcating values, Hollywood!

I didn't realize the cartoon characters were having gay sex. That's inappropriate for a children's movie.
