    Not to mention Boardwalk Empire.

We watched The Vow the other night, it was dong, and female dongs, free. Also entertainment free. It was pretty much free of everything.

                I didn't mind it.
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

After being chastized by MG for posting about this movie in the regular movie thread, instead of this specialized dong thread, I'm taking my next comment straight to the source of the buzz:

Eric Snyder says that Soderbergh jazzed up his dance performance scenes because of the way women approach stripper shows as opposed to men:

Soderbergh has a blast staging the performance scenes, which are the non-full-monty variety that employ borderline-campy props, costumes, and choreography. (That, perhaps, is the chief difference between male and female stripper audiences: women like to see a show; men are just there for the nudity.) No judgments are made about the dancers or the women who lust after them.
(I highlighted this last sentance for you, DDD)

Could we change this thread to Magic Mike/The Dong Thread. It could be a place where discussion of all non-pornographic movie dongs is welcome and encouraged. MG has already stated he intends to keep this meme going, which I assume he won't forget about them like YOhio does with memes he starts then lets die.

yes, and that's why I mentioned the choreography as being more funny/entertaining (some of the sequences are as hard as I've laughed at a movie in a while). The movie is tongue firmly in cheek about the dancing, as it recognizes the difference Snyder mentioned (there's nothing inherently sexy about guys taking their clothes off). If you were to compare what a theater of men would look like watching Salma Hayek strip in from Dusk Til Dawn compared to what a theater full of women looked like watching Tatum, you'd get two entirely different experiences.

Saw it. The whole movie in 6 words: "Stripper with a heart of gold."

Not to call her out or anything, but I can guarantee Beelzebabette would love this movie for the dance sequences. Now that SYTYCD is starting to pall, and all the SYTYCD dance sequences seem boring (even the stuff by Wade Robson), and each dance seems like a knock off of other dances done in like, Season 3, Magic Mike introduces some interesting movements and gyrations that can't be seen on TV and provides a thrill of the unknown. Sort of like when dirty dancing was first born, in the back alleys and rooms.

Channing Tatum is not at his hottest when he's taking off his clothes, it's when he dances--he's really good. Competance is much more sexy than naked flesh.

One of the reviewers said that the acting between Tatum and the female lead Cody Horn (sort of a poor man's Kristen Stewart with thin lips) is very natural, so natural that their scenes together seem like a documentary. I agree.

Ack Ptui, Matthew McConnaughay is in way too many scenes for my taste. I did notice, however, that he has a pretty sensual voice and Soderbergh directs him to use it to great advantage.

I like that Soderbergh does those overlapping conversations--I used to love it when Robert Altman did it. In the beginning of the movie the dialogue seemed really amateurish-- It hit a discordant chord amid the great directing by Soderbergh. I hated the casting of Alex Pettyfer, his acting chops seemed to lag behind every other actor in the movie, and he didn't play the wide eyed ingenue well at all.

My audience contained only one male, and he looked suspiciously like PAC.

Spoiler for My one quibble with the plot:
What the heck? As ambitious as Mike is, and as driven and focused, he only manages to save $13,000 in 6 years? When he's bringing in almost 1 grand a night for 3 nights a week? And he's living on the beach in a posh house but is worth almost nothing?

Crap, busted. And I thought by traveling 750 miles to see the movie I could go incognito. Apparently the Groucho Marx glasses, nose and mustache didn't help.

Just finished Bronson and there was plenty of Tom Hardy dong in that one.

Mods, how bout a new name to spruce up this thread. Something along the lines of "MarkGrace Presents: Dong Alert!"
