I am obviously watching the wrong movies. I can hardly think of a movie with full male frontal nudity. Sure, there's not much on full female front either but plenty of T & A.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostSo how much dong are they showing? And since there's so much more dong in movies nowadays, how about a few more female full frontals? There's one full frontal female shot for every 10 dong shots, boo! The American was a nice surprise. Even the immortal The Dreamers had two dongs in it.What's to explain? It's a bunch of people, most of whom you've never met, who are just as likely to be homicidal maniacs as they are to be normal everyday people, with whom you share the minutiae of your everyday life. It's totally normal, and everyone would understand.

We just got tickets to the 7pm showing and it's almost sold out already. I'm really interested to see the reaction to this because I really think it's not going to be what some people are expecting (like Drive). So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Haha- I'm guessing there is going to be some whooping, hootin' n' hollerin' in the theatre as this is going to be a vehicle for many a ladies' night around the country.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostWe just got tickets to the 7pm showing and it's almost sold out already. I hope you don't feel like you've been dragged into Thunder Down Under or something. Also, I hope the ladies don't get bored with stupid cinematic tedium like "plot" or "dialogue."

It was a bit unexpected.Manganiello's Big Dick Richie lives up to his stage name in a scene silhouetted by a screen and one unexpected shot of him using a pump in the foreground while Mike and Adam talk the logistics of the striptease. Because of the, um, angle of the shot, it's not really full frontal, but it's as close as it gets.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

In a movie about male strippers that was said to be borderline NC-17? Wtf were you thinking attending that thing let alone being so excited about it? I hope the image of that dudes meat stick is forever ingrained in you and your soulmates minds.Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostIt was a bit unexpected.

Some females I am related to went last night. They said there were only 2-3 guys in the whole theater. 300 raucous women were lined up waiting to get in."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

The theater we went to last night was insane. Lines for every showing, and there couldn't have been more than 10-12 dudes in each. I'm sure a bunch of the ladies around us were like "wtf are these dudes doing here," and my buddy and I just sat there floored thinking "it's insane to see this kind of demographic show up for a Steven Soderbergh film." The marketing for this thing was genius. They shot it for 7mm, and based on the turnout we saw last night and the buzz I seemed to get on it, I'm betting it triples that just this weekend.Originally posted by Surfah View PostSome females I am related to went last night. Anyway, I would be interested to see how some females reacted to it. My wife and her friend that were with us really liked it, but I'd be curious to hear some other reactions. I said previously that I didn't think the ladies night crowd was going to get the movie they thought they were getting, but I actually think it struck a bit better balance than I was expecting. I kind of expected something like Drive, where the previews showed basically all the driving and people bitched when they showed up because they were expecting Fast 5 and got a movie about Driver the character not driving itself.
But they did a pretty decent job up keeping up the club scenes throughout. The movie takes a decidedly more serious turn in the second half, and that's where I wonder if it started to lose people from the all fun and camp depiction the trailer gives you. It starts to hit territory like Boogie Nights where it's showing the appeal of these subcultures based on selling sex (money, instant gratification, a sense of community and family, etc) and then drops you into the pitfalls and cautionary tale. And of course they have set the story in a depressed beach front real estate market and are using the Mike figure that is central to the story to comment on the current financial crisis and make metaphorical references to capitalistic greed (a common Soderbergh theme). There are also these real art house type shots where Soderbergh is shooting from the back seat of a car at weird angles over people's shoulders and doing these weird hazy drug scenes; and scene cuts where pieces of dialogue are trailing when there are no characters on screen. I heard more than a few audible "well that was weird" from the ladies in the crowd.
But overall I think the movie did a pretty good job of balancing those pure entertainment scenes with the character and thematic angles you know Soderbergh would want to pursue. I think the one criticism that's probably going to come from trying to hit that balance is that it probably didn't go far enough with either. I'm guessing so people left wishing it would have been more about the pure raunchy fun side of the story, and some people left thinking it just scratched the surface of the commentary it was trying to make and didn't do quite enough with its characters. But I enjoyed it. Some of the dance scenes were just hysterical and really well choreographed. I bet the movie was a blast to make.Last edited by MarkGrace; 06-30-2012, 09:40 AM.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

btw, I'm not sure what gets an NC-17 rating, but this movie wasn't that bad. You get one shot of a weenie in a penis pump or something out of the corner of the screen in what is actually a really funny scene, and then two boob shots: one from Olivia Munn early in the movie and one from some random chick later (who my wife said "had enormous boobs that were weirdly saggy and perky at the same time). And that's about it for the nudity. In reading some reviews this morning I noticed several people feel it wasn't raunchy enough for the subject matter. The strip scenes are more funny than raunchy/sexy.Originally posted by Tone Loc View PostIn a movie about male strippers that was said to be borderline NC-17? haha. If I was going to catch the gay, it would have happened in The Wire, Game of Thrones, Sarah Marshall, or any number of things I've seen that showed a lot more dong (I'm going to keep up the dong meme) than this.Originally posted by DU Ute View PostIt doesn't matter.
