Just finished listening to the Benji MoSto podcast. Thing was seriously over 5 hours long. Anyway, I enjoyed it, even though it was kind of a heartbreakingg tale. I had no idea about this asterisk policy. Not a fan of that at all.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I only know what they explained, and it was just him and Dehlin talking so I don't know if they were getting everything right, but apparently Benji went through a disciplinary proceeding as part of dealing with his same-sex attraction. He ended up with an asterisk on his membership records denoting that he had been disfellowshipped. Apparently this is a normal thing and stays there throughout the disfellowship period and is removed once it is over. When he was close to finish his disfellowship period, he was called in by a member of his stake presidency and told that the church had a new policy whereby anyone who had such an asterisk due to involvement with same-sex activity would have to carry that on their records permanently and weren't allowed to ever serve in a calling with the youth. It wasn't exactly why he left the church, but he was clearly devastated by it.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWhat is the asterisk policy? I have seen them but I don't get it.
The stake president tried to explain the practical side of it and said the church was trying to protect itself because of recent high-profile and expensive lawsuits, but he had a really tough time dealing with it. And I don't blame him -- without any particular knowledge of what goes on here, I see no reason to belive that people with homosexual tendencies have any greater inclination toward pedophilia or related behavior than heterosexuals. Seems like pretty unfair treatment to me.Last edited by MarkGrace; 06-07-2012, 04:03 PM.So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Well, the alternative is to have all the young men turn gay, and we don't want that do we? It would kill the child replacement rateOriginally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostYikes. Would you guys feel okay with some random dude called by the ward as YW leader camping with the girls at girls camp? I don't think most heterosexual men are pedophiles, but I sure as hell am not comfortable with it. I don't think most teenage boys are pedophiles, but I will never hire some 14 year old boy to babysit my two little girls.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I guess you could make an argument it would be stupid and harmful policy if it exists, but wouldn't it be prudent to get a confirmation of this policy before you go there, or are you like my 70 year old father who believes everything he reads on the interwebs?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostYikes. They actually explained the policy as being more extensive than just the youth. They said anything involving kids 18 and younger. As in, couldn't even teach in the primary, be in the nursery, etc.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostWould you guys feel okay with some random dude called by the ward as YW leader camping with the girls at girls camp?
