  • James Bond will return in...Skyfall

Looks cool. These seem to be getting darker and darker. The Bourne trilogy was probably the best thing to happen to the Bond franchise. Daniel Craig is also becoming my fave Bond (if he isn't already...probably needs to make a few more movies to catch up to SeanCon)

Also, Jany Temime is doing costume design on this one, so 007s clothes should be pretty awesome. Already confirmed that he will continue to wear Tom Ford suits, ties, and casual wear, so expect a similar look to QOS. In other words: super caliente.

He's the second best, he still has a lot of work to do to catch up with Sean Connery. Connery had four quality Bond films, Daniel Craig has one. But Craig's best one is easily one of the best three films of the franchise.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Agreed. I think if Craig can hang on for a few more, he will be in the running.

Also, I enjoy Craig's interpretation much more than any of the other Bonds, although that is probably due in large part to the script and not to limitations on SeanCon's acting. This dark, brooding, mysterious Bond seems more fitting to the Bond novels. Much of my affinity for Connery is steeped in nostalgia for memorable characters like Odd Job and the Man with the Golden Gun. But really, if you go back and watch some of the old Bonds, they aren't really that great and no more ridiculous than QOS (Sean Connery as a Japanese fisherman in orange facepaint?? Dr. No's magic radar beam? yikes)

I think the dark vibe was where Timothy Dalton was trying to go, but he failed. Pierce Brosnan was perhaps the most forgettable Bond of all, despite doing what felt like so many movies.

What is that? I made several comments in my post. Do you like the Bourne Trilogy?

Basically all of the above. But I do love your mancrush on Daniel Craig.

This is probably my most anticipated movie of the year, even more than Batman. I love Daniel Craig as Bond and I loved the Bourne series (not so much Supremacy) and love that the Bond movies tend to follow what was done there.

FTR, I actually liked Dalton as Bond, but it's been a while since I've seen any of those movies. I still haven't seen a Pierce Brosnan Bond movie other than Goldeneye. He bores me.

My favorite Bond film is probably Goldfinger followed by Casino Royale and then The Living Daylights.

I know it is acceptable to trounce roger Moore, but I really like Live and Let Die, an homage to the blaxploitation era of film. In fact, as a small kid, it gave me nightmares.....the voodoo/occult subplot was scary. Solitaire is still one of the most beautiful Bond girls of all time. And in terms of memorable Bond moments, Live and Let Die has three.....jumping from alligator to alligator, the funeral procession scene in New Orleans (i think of this movie every time in in N.O.) and blowing up Kananga with the compressed air pellet. I still laugh when Kananga shoots the couch with the air pellet....the look on that rotund bodyguard sitting on the couch is funny.

Another thing I appreciate about Live and Let Die was that it was basically the first Bond movie to ditch the destroy the world/death ray from outer space goofball SPECTRE subplots and focus on real life criminal activity...in this case, drug trafficking. The Bonds that focus on real life criminal stuff seem to age better (see moonraker as an example of not aging well), with some exceptions, of course.

Casino Royale was amazing. I love from Russia with Love.

My only beef with Casino Royale was the length. It seemed too long, or maybe the pacing at the end wasn't done well enough.

QoS was meh in terms of story, but I still love it just because Craig is in it. The opening scenes of QoS is my favorite opening by far.

                          2 weeks.

It is time to start a few best of Bond discussions. Let's start with the most important, best Bond girls.

                          1. Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) - Casino Royale
                          2. Melina Havelock (Carole Bouquet) - For Your Eyes Only
                          3. Solitaire (Jane Seymour) - Live and Let Die
                          4. Honey Ryder (Ursula Andres) - Dr. No.
                          5. Tatiana Romanova (Daniela Bianchi) - From Russia With Love

I'm sure it's a function of advanced years, but I like 3-5 more than 1-2. I did like Izabella Scorupco in Goldeneye, but my top two are Shirley Eaton (the gold-plated babe) and Honor Blackman (the subtly named Pussy Galore) in Goldfinger. We still go to the same theater where I saw that movie in '64, and Mrs. PAC has long grown weary of my recounting that evening when a boy became a man.
