    Depeche Mode for Free

This website is streaming the new Depeche Mode album that comes out next week. Sounds of the Universe.

So far, not that great, which is probably why they are allowing the free stream.

The percussion at the beginning of track 2 reminds me of the distinctive percussion in "Kid A."

That reminds me of an experience with a mullah SP in our Elder's Quorum. He was visiting to install a new EQP and there was an 18 year old kid in there who was getting ready to go on a mission. He had a short haircut that I thought was fine but the SP was giving him a hard time about it since it wasnt a "missionary cut." He asks the kid how much he paid for it and the kid says it was free. The SP says "you got ripped off". The backstory? The kid's mom is a hairdresser and heard the whole story. Smooth Pres, smooth.

I'm listening to it now at my desk. It is poo. Although I like Track 6, "In Sympathy."

I'm with you, it's not good. Like most bands, DM peaked but continued to make more albums. I think they should have quit after Black Celebration.

Speaking of Pet Shop Boys, have you heard their latest? This is supposedly from their soon to be released album.

Why the hell are these people still making albums? They needed to retire long ago. It reminds me of a concert I went to back in the 80's at Knott's Berry Farm. It was Jan and Dean, post-accident. It was actually kind of pathetic to see the guy shuffle around the stage, etc. But at least they were playing their original stuff, not trying to make new albums.

They're artists though, not athletes. Artists live to create and Im not sure they care too much about going out at the top of their game. I doubt that their creative desires cease just because their original audience grows up and moves on. Add to this the fact that they can still earn significant money by continuing to produce and it's not hard to see why they'll go as long as someone will let them.
