  • Sherlock

This show has already been mentioned in the What I'm Watching Thread.

For those that are suffering withdrawals from having to wait another year for a handful of episodes of Downton Abbey, I recommend another bit of British TV fare -- Sherlock. In fact, for those that don't care for Downton Abbey, I still recommend it.

With that said, the shows have very little in common of course besides the fact they're both British and both very well-made. I would say the acting performances in Sherlock are better than Downton Abbey (with the exception of Maggie Smith) with the guy playing Sherlock being especially exceptional.

Sherlock Season 1 is on Netflix. Three episodes, 1.5 hours a piece. Season 2 has already been shown on the BBC and it's coming to PBS on Masterpiece Theatre (Masterpiece Mystery), I believe, in May.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Sherlock season 1 was awesome. We just watched S02E01 two nights ago and it was also awesome.

I liked Sherlock as well and am looking forward to the new season. BTW, am I the only one who watches the British shows using the closed captioning feature? Perhaps it's a function of my advanced age, but I frequently have a hard time understanding some of the Brits, especially when they go cockney on me.

For those looking for a legal backup copy of Season 2 on bit torrent, have you found a good one yet? I see one pop up frequently that has seasons 1 and 2 together but the quality is allegedly average. I want a high quality legal backup!

          We do that too, sometimes.

I put it on. I couldn't do it with the second season of Sherlock because it was downloaded. After awhile I got used to the British accent. Also, I do better with British English when I watch something with headphones. My TV speakers suck and I find that they muffle speech.

Benedict Cumberbatch, the guy who plays Sherlock, just got cast as the villain in the new Star Trek. He's also playing smaug in The Hobbit.

I loved the way they brought in Moriarti. I thought it was brilliant.

                  Sherlock trivia question:

In season 2 episode 1, Watson meets with the mysterious dominatrix in a big abandoned factory building. What is the history/significance of that building?

He will be Khan. I'm not sure he can fill Ricardo Montalban's shoes though.

The series starts up again here in the USA. On PBS, Mystery Theater tonight, Sunday. Catch it. Or else.

Darn it. Nobody answered my trivia question.

It's Battersea Power Station. Unused for a long time. Chelsea FC are trying to buy it I heard recently. Anything else?

Wow this show is great. I watched the first two seasons and was so bummed to find out there was no more. Great stories, great acting. Very, very well done.

The wife and I finished Downton Abbey season 1 last night and realized that season 2 is not yet streaming. We decided to get started on Sherlock. I really enjoyed episode 1, it's great tv. I do have an admission to make though, and a question to ask. I've never read a sentence of any of Doyle's books. I'm sorry if that makes me a horrible person but it's the truth. So, watching the show I couldn't help but be reminded of Dr Sheldon Cooper. Is Holmes an Asperger's type savant in the books too? Or are they capitalizing on the trend of a brilliant, socially backward protagonist?
