It's one of the best albums they've done. I don't get the hate for it. Then again, it's coming from a guy who thinks Duran Duran has great drum fills...
I'd be interested in your urban legend mix, what kind of urban legends made the cut? Are these songs that you personally associate with them or are they common associations?
I went with songs that are associated with urban legends either about the song's lyrics, the song's origin, etc. My assumption was that the urban legend is somewhat known. The quest is to put together the list, not necessarily to put together a great mix. Oftentimes I am left with a bizarre mix comprised of some good songs and some awful songs but that is part of the fun.
For example, a few songs from the Urban Legends playlist:
In the Air Tonight: Phil Collins saw a murder and then singled the murderer out at a concert
Louie Louie: the song is filled with obscene lyrics (false) which lead to the song being banned in some areas (true)
Hotel California: this song is about a SoCal mental hospital/Satanic Church/etc.
Blame it on the Rain: one of the two fake Milli Vanillis had a girlfriend that died in a car accident during a rainy night.
Love Rollercoaster: a woman was murdered while recording that song and the murder/scream can be heard on the recording
Sympathy for the Devil: the murder at Altamont happened while the Rolling Stones were playing this song
Every Breath You Take: lyrics taken from a stalkers letters sent to Sting
etc, etc. I think I have around 20 or so songs on the Urban Legends playlist.
I probably have over 300 different themed playlists and have been doing one most Sunday afternoons for years. It has tapered off in the past couple of years, though. The fun for me is to make up a topic and find songs that fit the theme. I have been on a roadtrip or two where I bust out a playlist and then driver has to try to guess what the songs have in common. Kind of fun.
Ironically, T.I. does not make an appearance on my Urban Legends mix

I sure hope Where the Streets Have No Name made the cut!
So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

When I started reading this post, I mentally took note that if you didn't include Love Rollercoaster that I was going to resign as your consigliere
