read that in dnews. Good they will go. MAny athletes like those not known that don't go wonder if they just use excuses. William Bradford over three decades ago had something to say about that. Good he is going.

Very cool to hear that. Seems like a selfless thing to do given the opportunity he has to ride his fame out just a little longer. I'm not a fan of his music, but I wish him well during and after his mission.
FTR, I had a singing companion on my mission. He was unbearable. I hope DA isn't like him."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

You know he is going to sing on every doorstep. He can also name drop to get in to a ton of houses that there is no way you would ordinarily get in to. He has the potential to make tracting bearable.Originally posted by Moliere View PostVery cool to hear that. So, no more music from him for awhile?
Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats.

I sincerely hope it works out for him but I suspect it won't. I think that he has already seen too much of the world and tasted too many of its fruits. He will be giving up more that virtually anyone I can think of in recent memory other than maybe Will Hopoate.

I heard his dad promised him a truck if he went.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostThat's great. I think he'll be able to do a lot of good, particularly since it's 100% "his decision", or so it appears.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Here's his announcement. The lengthy ovation is a bit disturbing.

What might have been... He announces "I've chosen to serve a fulltime mission..." at which the crowd erupts, and then when the screaming finally subsides, he continues with "...for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." I kind of wish he'd gone with a different denomination, if only for a strong comedic effect.
